Somerset (A)
« on: June 03, 2023, 04:53:43 PM »
Khushi out injured and Lawrence is back with England, despite the first test not being until June 16th. Rymell comes into the squad.

Harmer, Allison, Cook, Critchley, Das, Nijjar, Pepper, Rossington, Rymell, Sams, Snater, Walter, Westley

Good luck to anyone travelling there.

Do you want Essex to get thrashed? If our bowlers took a leaf out of Samms book and bowled straight and mixed up their pace we might have a chance. Bring in Snater and Pepper, hopefully bat first and put some pressure on. T20 only needs 1 or 2 batsmen to come off. Time for Cook to remember how to bowl in white ball cricket

Do you ever post something constructive? I hope none of the players read your posts.

It should be a battering to be fair, Somerset are a class above in T20 cricket. Smashed us twice last season and have improved since then.

Whilst not having Lawrence isn't a huge loss, it does leave a sour taste knowing that'll he'll probably be out golfing with Baz's boys whilst taking a wage from us.

To be honest if I were England, having picked Lawrence, I wouldn't want him playing T20. I would want him to play in the championship match starting on 11 June (although I doubt he will).

It's going to be tough, but it would be very on brand for Essex to beat Somerset and then lose to Sussex on Tuesday.

Apparently England will have some kind of team building exercise in Scotland. What can possibly go wrong.

A salad and fruit-free zone IIRC. And the water is fluoride-free too.

Just keep away from the natives.

I love it up there. The part of Essex where I grew up, near Halstead, was full of Scots farmers. I think there were three children in my primary school class whose parents were Scots.

Of course Essex always used to have quite a connection north of Hadrians's Wall with Hardie (especially) and Denness. Such was also born in Helensburgh but I was never too sure how much of a Scot he is. In domestic terms, playing in four championship winning seasons, is Hardie the most successful Scot to have played English County Cricket? I suppose Denness runs him close?

Dougie Brown with Warwickshire is the only other one I can think of, but he only won 2 championships (and a bunch of one day competitions).

Somerset currently have Josh Davey of course.

I've been retired for years, but the phrase "team-building" still sends a shudder through my bowels. I hope they are not subjected to team paintball, overnight bivouacs up mountains or getting across 7-foot rivers with two 3-foot planks.

Don’t let Bairstow anywhere near the wicketkeepers gloves— dropped catches lose matches,Foalks.

Excellent bowling performance, especially from Sams and Harmer. Essex should be favourites to get 151, but Somerset have some decent bowling so I wouldn't count them out.
