New President announced.
« on: April 11, 2023, 03:23:49 PM »
Essex Cricket is delighted to announce Keith Fletcher OBE as the Club’s new President.

Keith takes over the position from former teammate David Acfield who has served in the role of President since 2017.
A ideal choice for the post. Let’s hope this does not stop him from sitting and watching the cricket at the top of the Top Pearce, and no doubt listen to the banal ramblings of the cricket talk !

I expect he will still walk his dog around the boundary at Billericay ( when the seconds  eventually play there) and  Colchester.

Please confine yourself to meeting and greeting and telling amusing anecdotes. Do not try to run anything, we all know how well that worked out at Essex and England.

I suspect that his appointment is to ensure that we have a president who isn’t on social media…Stan is calling the shots.

My understanding is the President is essentialy an honorary role. A bit like being the King. Personally I would think Gooch might have been a better fit but maybe he gets to do it next. In respect of KWR's contribution I thought after he finished playing he was quite effective until he went to England. I remember thinking at the time that was a bad move for him. I suppose you don't it down but it was predictable that he wouldn't last long.
