Life Members Lunch

I know that the club are damned if they do & damned if they don't, so I suppose some credit is due for at least trying.......

But really you are going to "show gratitude for (my) continued support" by charging me £28 for a bog-standard lunch that I could get for probably £18/£20 max in one of the chain restaurants in town?
Other selling points :
*"A Guest of Honour will be in attendance" (but we're not telling you who it is)
*Stan will pop in at some stage
*There's a free lukewarm coffee on arrival

It will be a "no" from me

To be fair these have been excellent in the past. John Lever and Ray East telling stories of their time with the club.

Sitting in a marquee or box all day with tea/coffee on tap. Food has always been very good and when I had dietary issues they organised an alternative.

And I'll be fair also -- if either of those two had been named as Guest of Honour, I wouldn't have hesitated to have paid up & attended.
But it's difficult to avoid the conclusion that he (she?) is so underwhelming that its preferable not to name them at this stage.

When the mystery guest is giving their Woke lecture, you must not laugh in the wrong places.

I would not receive a email as I am not a Life member and also I have put the marketing email on block. I have received an email that that due to the hot weather tailored shorts will be allowed in the Premier Suite. If anyone as has happened in the past turns up wearing their It Aint Half Hot Mum shorts, they will be denied entry.

My reply to the club was very blunt and to the point.
The question of not requesting anything back on my season ticket in 2020 (when I was still an “annual member”), allied to the fact that as a life member now I am struggling to identify any perks I get other than a free (always late) handbook, made me originally think this had to be a thank you gesture from the club.
£28 bleeding quid??
I more or less told them to stick it where the sun doesn’t shine.

I have decided that the club is not worthy of my time to even tell them where they can stuff it.

Following visiting a place where there was a piano available and just about being able to find my way around the keyboard. I am looking at getting back into playing a musical instrument. If Sharif is the guest speaker, I will change to the violin and I can play it whilst he is telling the audience how hard done by he was.

Andrew Strauss is on the TV telling the old old story again. If he is the guest speaker, my violin playing will be welcome if it is loud enough. It will not matter that it sounds like the strings are still inside the cat.
