I see that RTD yesterday announced his retirement from International cricket and I believe from Essex as well which is sad but has been on the cards this past season.
All long innings inevitably end, some with a flourish some not. Ryan’s seems to be the latter.
When I recall, diminishing memory allowing, of all the key disciplines that he has featured in, with bat ball and superlative catches, his loss and legacy will be huge.
He was a player and a half, with a shrewd cricket brain, guiding Essex on and off the field to some of their most memorable successes.
In recent years, last decade and more we have enjoyed unrivalled success, and for a County with our resources, performed well above our standing. Ryan was integral to that.
Very interesting now to see what he does. Will he coach, manage or enter new avenues totally away from cricket?
One of our beloved County’s best who will be regarded as one of our most successful players.
Here’s to you Ryan, a happy and fulfilling retirement.
I must say I am slightly surprised that a separate topic dedicated to Ryan has not been started but maybe one is in the offing.
I know that I will not be alone and every contributor to this wonderful Board will remember Ryan very fondly, with great respect and gratitude for all he has achieved in his long and illustrious career with Essex.
