186-4 having been struggling at the half way stage.  Seems the Painted Lady and the rest went for a few in the end, apart from Batty.  Is this enough? Will Beard bowl the 19th over?

Been keeping an eye on other results and it’s not looking good with Hampshire doing well against Middlesex. Probably leaves us with too much to do with our net run rate being s**t even if we win this match and win again tomorrow. That choke against Hampshire would end up costing us the top four.

Update: Well we ended up winning. All Glammy aren’t we!

That will be a no then.

Great win at the home of Slurry. Bet the Essex fans at the game enjoyed that.

It was one of the most enjoyable T20 games I've ever attended.

There were a lot of Essex fans there, probably more than Sorry, not as many as the City types on their night out though. A victory margin narrow which should have been more comfortable, decent showing from the bowlers with Amir especially economical as normal, an eventful over by Walter but first ball he bowled the dangerous Pope, who if he had stayed in, was likely to lead Sorry home, wickets then fell regularly. After a poor start by us losing wickets again to unnecessary shots Ravi & Tendo upped the pace with nearly 50 off the last 3 overs, if only Ravi in particular could have done this earlier in the Group. It is unlikely we can qualify even if we beat Kent tomorrow but at least we have had a go, the 4 washouts have done us no favours as we would certainly have expected 2 wins v Glamorgan at least but a bit more encouraging this year although we still don't appear to have a settled , established T20 team, I have been distinctly underwhelmed by Delport bar one big innings plus a 50 & little else, Zampa has done ok, Amir very well & kept it tight generally. A lot to do to improve next year though!

I'd given up on getting anywhere in this competition this year, but if we'd won only one of the wash-outs we'd be in with a chance of progressing, in spite of having the second worst net run-rate. Strange.

Simple equation. We need to beat Kent and Hampshire must lose (or tie).
Us winning takes out Kent, plus one of Somerset or Middlesex.
In the unlikely event of a tie between Somerset and Middlesex, then all we need to do is win our game.

Indeed, but that's often how competitions are designed nowadays - look at the IPL, 10 teams endless matches even then 40% go through to the 'finals' stage.  Knockout competitions are so passe...still, I'd actually prefer that we didn't lose the monies from the rained off matches. After all, this is a sports business.

Probably too little too late, but good to see that Essex finally adopted a risk, reward approach to this must win game by selecting Porter premium pace bowler, ahead I presume of the hapless Beard.

Risk, he might get injured and not spearhead our final thrust to Championship glory.

Reward - surprise, surprise, Porters rips out Surrey’s powerhouse top order, finishing with 4-38 and vying with Ravi for man of the match.

Faint heart and all that!! Oh that he had been selected for the Hampshire game.

Likely to be academic even if we beat Kent tonight, who must be in state of shock at losing two crucial games catching Essex disease of grabbing defeat from jaws of victory, for although T20 and anything can happen, cannot see Hampshire doing anything but win against winless Glamorgan, our best hope here is a storm to suddenly arrive, and  Somerset to beat Middlesex, even with AB, whom I saw play a spirited knock last night although clearly not match fit, and who were very disappointing in the field, putting down at least two catches and were easily beaten by Hampshire.

Our run rate also  equates to a point lost, so the odds are well stacked against us- but never say never, this is Essex after all, full of surprises, nasty and glorious.

Biggest disappointment for me of this ultimately disappointing season has been the failure of Delport, of whom so much was expected.

Progress has been made but not enough and I hope if we do nothing else, we somehow secure a quality aggressive consistent top order batsman, preferably an opener, to ensure we start well.

Not easy but this is what is required as top priority.

Trego is our man. Would be cheap and gives a bowling option.
