Usual story ... promising bowler (PW) goes away with ECB fast bowling camp in the winter. Comes back a worse bowler.

ECB not fit for purpose. Take a look at the list of non-jobs (vacancies) on their website.

Given what happened to Anderson all those years ago, I agree that the ECB has ‘form’ in the ruining young seamers department, although Spoons was meant to be involved over the winter.

Do any of the non-jobs require applicants to bring their own cones?

Surely the ECB aren't going to be running the ice-cream vans as well?

I meant those mini traffic cones used in training...mind you, talking of mobile eateries I’m reminded of Sailor Bobs reference to Whelk Stalls whenever I read anything by the ECB.

And as for running anything in a brewery.....

I'm sure I read it was the over way around.

Essex want him to bowl a bit slower and more accurately to improve his economy rate but while he was away with England they were just encouraging him to bowl as fast as possible.

Which suggests Silverwood having been around him for the past 3-4 seasons knows him better than the current Essex bowling coach?

Whichever way it is a little sad that Walter's development has been hindered by having to do what is best for Essex/ECB despite the fact it clearly seems not to be the best for him. He should, within reason, have been allowed to bowl in his normal style & see how & what developed & then go from there rather than having to conform & thus stifling possibly his natural ability which appears to be the case as he has not kicked on in the way he should have.
