Or the fusarium disease that got into the Lords pitch and caused Bob Massie to roll us over in two days.

The choice of Cardiff won't go down well in Taunton in particular or Bristol, Durham another Test ground also miss out so they won't be overjoyed either.
Give it 5 years & people will tire of it hopefully, interesting that it will run without interfering with the existing County T20, How? There won't be enough available days in Summer surely? Maybe they'll just scrap the CC to fit it in!!

It will clash with the 50 over and CC competitions. Assuming the city stuff runs in late July/August then the T20 competition will need to be pulled forward into May/June/Early July, in other words a warm up for the City c**p.

Can anyone really see many people from Somerset/Glo/Devon/Cornwall travelling to Cardiff to see a 20-20 game ... between Cardiff and say Leeds...when it will be live on the BBC?!

Utter cack.

Any chance that target audience for franchise cricket are juniors with their parents who are new to the game. Also corporate business people, rather then existing county membership supporters? Therefore cricketing authorities will be confident that franchise T20 will be successful as a result.

The bit I can never understand is why this new audience are not already attending the existing 20/20 competition. I think families do go a lot more now and the crowds are better balanced but I do not believe there are still huge numbers to be converted. Time will tell.

The ECB haven't got a clue. They're simply copying the Big Bash hoping for the same success. No insight whatsoever.

At last year's AGM or possibly a Forum, the Chief Exec said that the London Stadium idea was "not quite dead but only just breathing" or words to that effect. I suspected at the time that Essex were hanging fire in the hope that the ECB would make it a venue for the new T20 and stump up cash for the conversion costs, so that the club could then use it for the domestic T20. With that possibility gone I think the idea is now well and truly deceased.

I think the ECB want to use the venue for the 2-19 World Cup.

Yes, I heard that comment, too. I might...... note the might ...... be prepared to travel to the Olympic Stadium (or whatever it’s called now, or will be in the future) for a Saturday or Sunday afternoon t20, but I wouldn’t go for a Friday, or other weeknight, game.

Saturday/Sunday afternoon at  Lord or The Oval...... less likely.

Mind, I’m not the  target audience; I go and watch cricket already!
