New books on Essex players
« on: January 15, 2018, 06:01:25 PM »
Essex supporters may be interested to learn that there are due to be two books published about former Essex players this year. Von Krumm are bringing out, hopefully in May, Robin Hobbs's autobiography which is long overdue and should be fascinating. In October Hodder & Stoughton will issue Derek Pringles' tome which may be more esoteric in nature.

I have always thought well of Alistair Cook, that unlike his predecessors as England captain he has not rushed to print at every opportunity. To date he has only one book to his name, very early in his test career. Therefore should he produce a final autobiography he should have much to comment on. By contrast Andrew Strauss and Michael Vaughan both published three books on their careers and our own Graham Gooch had numerous efforts.

As Ally has had no controversy in his private life I wonder if there will be a great demand for his biography although his take on the likes of The Ego would be interesting, other than that only diehard fans & Essex supporters would go for it I think.

I'd take a book about farming over Big Ron's opus about after dinner speaking.

I never missed missing Ronnie and Big Al Brazil on some radio station. Rather like listening to the Chimps tea party at London Zoo, except less erudite or entertaining.

The airwaves loss is our gain.

He who must not be named might still be here if Big Ron hadn't needed a new gig.
