Wondies
« on: August 30, 2017, 05:51:02 AM »
After several decades of seeing Windies batter England, seems strange that they have won their first test in England in 17 years .
Full credit to Captain Root for trying to force victory in declaring rather than bat on, making it a entertaining days cricket than a bore draw on the final day . A run chase which became quite comfortable in obtaining at the end.
Shai Hope became the first person to score two centeries in a match in 127 years of cricket at Headingley. Quite a achievement considering it was the home ground of Hutton and Boycott.

Yep let's hope the inevitable criticism from dinosaur ex-players doesn't dissuade Root from similar action in the future. Of more concern is the bowling attack, totally reliant on Anderson.

That's exactly what Agnew and Boycott were NOT saying on TMS.

Agreed that it simply reflected the weaknesses in our bowling attack I) picking a half fit Woakes instead of TRJ ii) having no genuine pace in the attack iii) not having a spinner who can tie down one end (might as well have bowled Root & Wedtley) if) Broad can't seem to put two good matches in a row.

Spot on, Andy.

I've been pleasantly surprised by lack of carping about the declaration.

No place like Lords for bit of genuine pace - will Mark Wood get a crack?

Hasn't played any cricket in a while. No chance of playing at Lords. Looks like another 'sicknote' sadly.

For cricket in general yesterday was a good result & full credit to the Windies for achieving such a great result. Having watched them at Chelmsford the other week I thought Brathwaite, Blackwood,Roach would do ok but Shai Hope was a huge surprise (pleasant). Lords next week should be interesting!!
