England call up Borthwick & Tredwell
« on: December 23, 2013, 09:47:05 AM »
Not sure what to make of this.

Tredders, great one day man but never anything special at test match level, couldn't buy a wicket for Kent last year, and can;t even make the 4th test.

Borthwick makes more sense, assuming he's a decent fielder. I've only seen him once, when James Foster belted him to all corners of Chelmsford in a one-dayer.

Not exactly a ringing vote of confidence in Monty, is it?

Not really, they need a replacement spinner in the squad.

We know Monty's not reliable. So we wouldn't want to rely on him alone. Says more about Root & KP as support bowlers.

Makes the call up of Kerrigan at the Oval more bizarre.

...

Er, ...Durham actually. Having trouble knowing where you are?

Apologies. I watched it on the box.

I'd been beginning to think that Essex's new star signing might end up with a central contract after all. (Which would have saved the club some money.)

But it does make sense in the circumstances for England to try some new faces. Not a lot to lose now, after all.

And I do fondly remember that Foster-Borthwick encounter from box-watching.

Monty is like a bowling machine, just switch him on and be ready for the same ball to be bowled over and over again.

That sounds more like a recommendation for the selection of a party candidate for the next election.

So England have called up a bowler who didn't get a FC wicket until July plus a leg spinner who ,admittedly, has potential but isn't anywhere near ready for England yet, doesn't inspire much confidence does it?
Saying that who else is there?

If Monty loses his contract ,can we afford to keep him?

Might as well have got Craddock out there - he'd do a better job than Durham's finest I'm sure...

Yep Borthwick looked what he is ...second rate. Really poor shot to get out...how does he bat at no. 3 for Durham!?

Monty doesn't have a central contract and pretty sure he doesn't have an incremental one either

I stayed up and watched the first couple of sessions on my computer screen and I have to state, I found the England batting performance to be even more irritating than that clown with a funny indian accent rudely interrupting between overs.

A shambles again today with many including Cook once again getting themselves out, Stokes at least showed some fight as did Balance to some extent plus some late hitting from Broad for once. Something is clearly wrong deep down with our batting & their psyche, they can't handle pressure & the Aussie bowlers have clearly worked out our weaknesses & how to exploit them, our bowlers seem to bowl however they fancy & don't have a gameplan especially to Haddin who has been fearless & awesome.
