Following the decision by the ECB to stage a round of county championship matches under lights in June next year a further effort to make the game more accessible to people who aren't retired, unemployed or unemployable has been announced with the news that a round of fixtures will commence at 6:00 am. ECB head of domestic logistical cricketing/marketing interface scenarios Tarquin Greaseball said, "with more and more people in shift work and with our increasingly hectic 24 hour lifestyles cricket needs to not just get into the 21st century but get on the fast bus to futuresville and be ready for the 22nd century. With that in mind we have decided to experiment with staging championship cricket at six in the morning, this allows spectators to catch a few overs before work or for night shifters such as security guards, night club bouncers and burglars to see some cricket before they go to bed." Essex CCC backed the plans with the announcement of a new breakfast menu including spitfire porridge and a choice of coffees, ones with lids and ones without.
