It's that time .
« on: August 03, 2016, 05:21:03 PM »
It's with great credit that the club is still involved in all three competitions, at this time .  The business end of the season  is fast approaching and a Churchillian effort is now required for all the hard work to result in reward in some form .
Previous recent seasons have either had us make a late, but fruitless challenge, in the Championship or a two week period has seen early exits in OD competitions .
Let's hope times have changed, and the new regime can progress us further than before .
So please let's see some reward, for the players and fans alike .

Over the years we have done well at Colchester ,it being at the business end as has been said, very important to win this next match & to effectively end Sussex'x outside chance of promotion, then push on at Trent Bridge on Mon.

Looks like we might have to take our own chairs to Colchester.
No stands,  it also mentions no food in the pavilion and to take our own picnic.

We will see what tomorrow brings.

Hard to judge without any stand seating , but a very healthy attendance , one appeal to take bags off seats by lunch .

Yes a top day out with a good crowd. The word was that it may well be the end of the festival so get there while you can.

The only way I can see any festival working is for there to be 2 x 1 day games plus a 4 day game.

End of festival? If that is the case they can wave goodbye to mine and many other memberships next season. Short-sighted a...holes.

The club will spin it as lack of interest despite the fact they can't even be bothered to put a stand up.

The absence of a stand was a money saving ploy.
There was a good crowd again on Friday and numerous member complaints to the admin office about the of lack of chairs .
Many had to stand, and when asked what will happen at the weekend if another large crowd attends I heard the answer "we may have to close the gates".

What!
They obviously want Colchester to make a financial loss, as a good excuse to terminate this lovely festival.

Get some more chairs!

There's always the Chelmsford Festival though.

Where you can marvel at a clapped out van or drink even more types of rank beer than normally available.

Basically bag a chair & don't let it out of your sight, that was the order of today.
If Colchester is to be viable in future then it simply has to have a 1 day match plus a CC match, the problem is the RL Cup finishes on Jul 1st next year so it will need a T20 match which will doubtless be a sell out like the Kent game was in 2014 even on a Sat afternoon (a terrific game played in good weather btw).
I believe a number of Members come not just from the Colchester area but Suffolk & Norfolk & this is their home Festival, Essex please take note!!

Essex have traditionally gained a lot of support from the east of the county plus Suffolk/Norfolk. To alienate them by abolishing Colchester week would be folly. To build up a comparable support in east London/Stratford would take decades but I suspect the allure of the Olympic stadium for a short term fix will win out. :'(

You're assuming the club is interested in retaining "traditional" support. Sadly that is probably not so and traditional supporters have been treated as a nuisance since the late Mr Edwards left us. The current management with its football background regards spectators as a problem to be managed (by being pestered with health and safety announcements, hectored with piddly notices saying don't do this and there are no facilities for that, and being scanned to within an inch of their lives), not as a resource to be cherished.  Far easier to sell tickets to people who will drink their way through an evening of T20.
