While catching up on some work reading on http://www.accountingweb.co.uk/ I came across a new advertiser. Is this a new way of advertising? I thought the t20's were sell outs (or near sell outs) - see the attachments to the post!

The club are really struggling to sell games on Thursday evenings. They've maxed out on the pricing I think.

Well it's not that cheap a night out when you consider that at most grounds you don't have to pay an additional fee to reserve a seat. I'm not a great T20 fan but when I have gone I've found it less expensive to take my lad to a London ground (Lord's or The Oval). Admittedly I've got a rail season ticket which makes travel to London cheaper than travel to Chelmsford but it's also as quick to get home to the Southend area by rail from Liverpool St as it is by rail from Chelmsford after 10pm. This all rather militates against some of the franchise ideas and the supposition that large crowds will roll up on week nights which suit satellite TV?

On the other hand, some might say that is why it's better to focus competitions on major urban centres than a (ahem) backwater like Chelmsford. Does S#Y care about having anyone attend the matches? This seems to be the case with that other sport that shall not be named (that isn't Rugby).

However, I'd certainly agree that these pricing decisions seem to be dreamt up without much consideration of the paying punter.

With the T20 fixture list the way it is ie spread over approx 11 Fridays, I think then all Counties need a couple of home games on other days, some play on Sundays & odd Saturdays although Saturday crowds are not so good (Sorry v Essex the other week was approx 5k down on last year however the atmosphere was better as the City p***heads weren't there), odd that Essex rarely play a Sunday home T20, the last one we had 2/3 years ago v Sussex was played to a full house in glorious weather & a very much family orientated crowd.

Given that next year there will be per the ECB "14 matches over just short of 40 days, with matches predominantly on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday"

This excludes the 1/4 finals and the T20 finals day.

PS Banner ads appearing on Espncric info!

Yet the only seats available are for the members bit of the Hayes Close end and in front of the River End. There are also Standing tickets available but they never sell out on Thursdays, the p***heads only like Fridays. I wouldn't call it a struggle and I don't like the pricing (begrudge paying the reduced members rate) but I don't think they've got it wrong, and on-line advertising is the best way to reach the target audience, none of whom would have an ECCC fixture list. (Come to think of it, without the yearbook, neither have I).

There’s a fixture list on the Essex website. It’s under “Teams"
