Debt in county cricket

Anyone see the Cricketer article? It seems that Essex and Sussex are the only debt free counties. I guess in our case we are still benefiting from the prudence of the Peter Edwards era. The article highlighted the expansion of grounds hosting tests and ODIs and the impact of too many grounds  being used

The picture is not entirely rosy. Read the accounts from the 1980's and the club reserves were a huge amount. Interest rates were much higher in those days and the interest received would have almost nearly covered the expenditure.

They could have given free memberships and only charged non members a nominal amount.

Or bought a bigger ground and made a serious case to stage international cricket on a regular basis...

I thought there was a massive hole in our accounts?

If we're debt free it might only be until the next set are filed.
