I understood that Elgar won't be playing 50 overs from an interview he gave last year when he said he had retired from that format. I imagine he will go home for a most of August. Harmer shouldn't play either. T20 is sufferring nationally. I read that cowds are down everywhere, apart from Surrey. Lancs have fallen off a cliff. I caught a train up to London last August and was surprised by the number of people on it wearing replica Oval shirts, so clearly the 100 is drawing people in from Essex.

So with unavailability, resting and non-persons. The XI for the One-Day cup, would appear to pick itself.

Silverwood, talking about discovering Beau Webster. Sounds like someone, who for once had a big win on the horses, and expects to do so again.

Absolutely this. Was in a taxi the other week. Driver was east London / Essex borders, West Ham season ticket holder.

His boy has recently expressed an interest in cricket. Dad taking him to the Oval for two 100 games. School holidays and cheaper.

We are doomed long term. A kid like that pre 100 is coming to Chelmsford and could potentially become a member one day.

These type of one or two game a season / new supporters will just not materialise in the future and the subsequent chance of them developing a love and passion for Essex as they get older is a thing of the past.

I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't return at all after August and I would be very surprised if we see him at all next season.
