the management have found themselves in a world where they can't compete for talent

Somerset seem to do okay (Chris Gayle) & they're my benchmark for Essex.

Funnily enough they picked up when they picked an overseas (Langer) as captain ...

Preceded several years earlier by Jamie Cox, who kicked-started Somerset's ascent, around the time ECCC, post Gooch, were beginning their descent to mediocrity. Courtesy of the Essex Way, Cricket Committee and RC Irani......

Still it is amazing how some people's life revolves entirely around alcohol.

Since being married and having children I have found alcohol a great friend.

Shepherd Neame is the enemy though.

That’s as well as, I think, Garon Park and Larry.

Mr P, you must lead an embittered life.

I think you'll find it's the lack of decent bitter that forms the basis of the Shepherd Neame complaint. ;)

& even the club gave up on the windswept wastes of Barren Park.

& hopefully the windbag waster Larry at some point in my lifetime.

I did wonder about writing a dis-em-bittered life!

Mind, on a scale of 1-10 Shepherd Neame's bitter ranks, IMHO, above Oranje whatsit lager, even on a very hot day!

I don’t, admittedly drink the stuff, but still better than Oranji-whatsit.
