Brendon McCullum has reiterated his desire to remain as England head coach after an agonising defeat in the T20 World Cup semi-finals ended a bruising winter.
England's creditable run at the World Cup followed a 4-1 defeat on an Ashes tour blighted by mistakes on and off the field.

The price of failure is ?. Reinstatement.

He's lucky he looks to be staying but to me Robert Key would be first on the list to be got rid of.  McCullum always sounds like a genius when compared to Key.

I think Key has made a lot of bad decisions- including to appoint Baz as coach for both formats. I think Baz will stay, with perhaps Alec Stewart in Key's role. They might split the role again and keep Baz as one day coach, but I doubt it.

Phil Walker, who admittedly is a huge Essex fan, said on the Wisden podcast that he'd like to see RTD as coach. Prising him from the India set up would be a challenge though, especially since they've just won the T20 World Cup. I'd like to see Jonathan Trott given the test job. If he can cope with Afghanistan, he can cope with England.

Which double act, does Key and Baz remind you of. The Chuckle Brothers, Laurel and Hardy. Or as individuals, Frank Spencer.

I certainly agree that we need someone who has a good record of coaching at international level as well as a good understanding of the county game.  I worry that the stress of the job can lead to wellbeing issues for coaches but also impact negatively on the team.

JT had a lot of problems that brought his playing career to a premature end but I also suspect that the bunker mentality in the current England coaching team is a product of more than incompetence.

After the defeat by mighty Italy. If you think Baz is bad, just listen to Steve Borthwick in the post match interview.
