Middx Stiffs
« on: June 10, 2025, 05:18:47 PM »
I had occasion to visit Radlett today to watch Middx 2XI vs Essex 2XI in a 20-20 bish bash bosh game.

Essex 2XI now have more wins than the first team.
Interesting that Tom Westley and Jamie Porter played. Presumably they are being considered for the 1XI.

TW and JP were by far the best Essex bowlers on show as might be expected.

TW batted reasonably well too against a fairly decent bowling line-up.

Das is still a bit of a concern. Far too frenetic in his batting. He needs to work out what type of batsman he is. He and Charlie Allison seem to want to muscle the ball rather than play proper shots. Andy Flower (or me) could show them how to bat properly but still score quickly.

Westley 4 wickets for 9 runs was handy. He under bowls himself in the first team. Was Richards his usual  eratic self, going at 10 or 11 and over, and looking more useful as a batsman? In my opinion  his bowling has not progressed.  Was Fletch there?

Radlett is a bit of a road so bowlers can go the distance there quite easily. Richards bowled ok but nothing more. He tends to overpitch rather than bowl the ball into the pitch (like Porter) but it's something he ought to remedy.

Fletcher wasn't present.

Did Ben Lockrose play?, he plays for Otago and has looked decent when I have seen him, often opens the bowling but bowls left arm spin.

Fletch will be at Garons tomorrow.

Yes Lockrose did play and bowled ok. Don't think he will be good enough for the 1st team though.

He has my sympathy.

Das seemed to be in a good place just over month ago scoring plenty of runs. This then was not replicated on first team duty. Perhaps because of this confidence has dipped and more white ball than red innings has shown how difficult to adjust formats for some.

He had a poor winter overseas, and had an iffy start for the seconds this season Then got a double ton in a friendly, and found a bit of form.I see him as a white ball player, and should be given a chance, but hope he has overcome his habit of being caught  in cow corner.

He was born in the UK, so presumably has a UK passport. Maybe an option for the 50 over competition?
