How did the club survive prior to 2003 then?

T20 is a recent invention after all.
Don't forget around the time of the 2005 Ashes success the ECB encouraged counties to redevelop their grounds. Hence so many got into financial difficulty and had to get the councils to bail them out. I've wondered whether the delays over the redevelopment were a blessing because they stopped us shelling out too much, but maybe I had too much faith...

Also, ECCC had a better side in 2003, with our OS/Kolpacs being available throughout the season. We tend to forget that there was a time before IPL, big bash league etc when top, stars came here instead of watching the cheerleaders jiggle to the music...

Guys, I'm aware some of you don't like the format.  Here's the thing see.  You've got a lot of people that go to work during the week.  Getting the chance to watch our boys on a Friday (or any other evening) is a major bonus, for a good number of those.  I think it's about time that some of our membership, who appear to be4 stuck in the 1920's (or bloody well should be) recognised that without the "crowd of drunks" Essex CCC would probably be in serious financial trouble.

Why is that?  Because the 145 quid a summer for a membership does not cover the clubs outlay.  Seriously, and be honest, how much beer does the Pavilion sell during LVCC games?   I would be surprised if they sell a couple of nines a game.  How much food does the club sell in LVCC games?  not a lot.  Why, because our retired members are very well organised.  They bring their own lunch and they bring flasks of tea/coffee.  They spend virtually nothing in the ground.  Fair enough, no problem with that.

But you better get it into your nuggets that this club will be properly in the khazi if we don't get 6000 crowds at 7 T20 home games, spending significant amounts of cash across the bars and in the shop.

And as I've said so many times before..you don't like it, don't go.  it costs you nothing to not attend.
Happy Friday chaps!

I enjoy the crowds in T20 , although sometimes you get a few idiots generally its people enjoying themselves. I also enjoy the banter with the opposition fielders which they normally take pretty well.  At the end of the day they are spending money with Essex so thats a good thing. If you don't like T20 then don't go, simple.

Anyway back to today - great result from the boys.

FYI -  I am a huge fan of T20 attending all our home games plus away games at Lords & The Oval. I do understand that we need the revenue from these games but as I have said before I don't like the bad behaviour that comes with it from some so called fans.

I'm happy with stamping down "bad behaviour".  I'm not against a very fervent home support though.  This is a different game of cricket.
And you Sir, will well remember the old days at Valentines Park when it got very very lively after about 4pm on the Sunday league games.... ;D

Quite a few idiots in my experience. The final straw for me was when around 20 young, insensitive drunkards were queuing for the disabled toilet and couldn't understand that it was there for the use of patrons with disabilities and not for those fully abled idiots to pee all over the floor whilst a steward looked on without intervening.

So Friday T20's are out for me and with good reason.

It was a urinating incident that put me off taking my son to Chelmsford T20 games at a Saturday tea time game v Middlesex a couple of years back.

We went to Lords on Saturday and had a top day. I really enjoyed the second game which we stayed on for. I wonder if there's a case for a T20 magic weekend like they have in rugby league where say all the teams in a group each play a couple of games on one large ground over the May Bank Holiday weekend with all England players available?

Yep, but what if it happens to rain in Essex (for once)?

No because we're told people want games spread out and played every week at a certain day/time like football so easier to manage!

I like the Middlesex model.

Get it over & done with & then forget about it.
