Who would have thought that Essex Eagles dismal display against Sussex in the final group game could be upstaged, but alas Derbyshire defeat by hundred runs against Hampshire in the quarter final did just that .
Could not cope with Alfridi early onslaught, conceded 250 and chasing twelve over rapidly lost quick wickets . Only a final wicket partnership gained some final respectability .

Perhaps a 10/10 game on finals day could be a alternative for both teams .

T20 is that kind of game at times.  Hampshire were easily the worst team seen at Chelmsford this year, we chased down their score of 124 with 6 overs to spare, yet they could easily win the whole competition.  They also lost their last qualifying match, when a win would have given them a home semi final, by 98 runs.

Rubbish you mean.

Anyone over the age of 12 really shouldn't get excited by it.

Whatever people may think about the quality this year it has been good to see froman overall view the so called lesser Counties like Derby & Leics getting to the 1/4 Final stage , puts Essex to shame somewhat although Derby have Madsen the leading runscorer in the Comp this year. Last night Derby did an Essex & totally collapsed & froze on the night but at least they got there.

I think our friend Denly is the leading scorer at this this time.

They're are doing what people on here criticised Essex for doing in past years,  concentrating on T20 at the expense of other competitions.  The same as Northants have done.  Derbyshire have signed Viljoen, Henry and Tahir for this season.  Three recent internationals.  They wouldn't come too cheap.  Glamorgan have also really concentrated on the T20 this year aswell.

Have to agree, can't complain given the loss of key players since last year and the obvious difficulties in acquiring O/S talent - if we were pootling along in D2 CC I could understand this antsy attitude, but we had a run in the 50 overs and are...top of the Championship!

Anyone who knows anything about cricket could see that we weren't set up for the T20 season this year.  We have fully concentrated on the Championship.

Lets hope we can get across the line first, otherwise the knicker wetters that inhabit this board will say its a season of failure of the highest order....

Yes and no.....Championship has been the priority, and rightly so, but our T20 team was missing Iqbal, Westley and don't forget Quinn in the later stages, all three were missed.

Don't accept that Essex must prioritise one competition over another. We should be good enough to compete in all competitions.

Even if we don't do a Leicester the last 2 seasons have been brilliant.

God bless Ronnie Irani.
