More to the point, cook was not allowed to play this week or last

He might not have wanted to.  He played 7 CC games us this year which is a lot.  He's on a central contract and there are two Test Tours coming up before christmas.  Having a couple of weeks off before that is more than fair enough.  He could have taken the Leicester and Worcester games off aswell if he wanted to.

Get the feeling Yorkshire captain not too impressed by Rashid judging from Twitter comment. I realise that in the modern game rest is everything but seriously, the England management should be deeply disturbed by the attitude of the guy for not wanting to play a part in such an important game for his county.

Cook may well have wanted to spend time with his wife who is due to give birth next month. He is missing the warm up matches in Bangladesh for this reason.

On purely cricketing grounds I thought Cook might play in the Glamorgan game but not this week because of the imminent departure to Bangladesh. What I didn't know was that his wife is expecting another child soon so I'm actually pleasantly surprised that he played the two late season games he did. I get the sense he wants to play for us when he can.

And he popped back to Chelmsford to join the lads as they celebrated promotion.

I'm just impressed that Chef is clearly able to keep an end up for ECCC, Team England and the Cook Clan.

Rashids reasons for not playing.  He says he did make himself available.

Don't believe him. He's in a hole and trying to get out.

Strange that Bairstow was denied the chance to play yet Ben Stokes is free to play for Durham in a game that is dead for them.
