Story in the Mail today suggesting Nick could be a surprise call to open against Sri Lanka next month. Could happen I suppose but what would that leave us for openers?
-
Any 2 from 3, Dan Lawrence, Tom Westley or Jaik.
But it would leave us a little wanting as Jaik has struggled, Lawrence has given his wicket away irresponsibly twice this season and Tom as proven is a number 3.
Cant see Browne getting the 3 Lions just yet, but he is not far away and he will need better umpires than the ones at Hove if he is to progress.
I think as its Sri Lanka they will persist with Hales and I presume that Vince will replace Taylor?.

No chance.

Who was the dodgy umpire at Hove, was it Baldwin?
I don't think Browne is ready for the step up, just yet, but funnier things have happened.
Young Gough got over a hundred in his two knocks against Middlesex for the seconds, maybe he should come in before Jaik.
-
Baldwin was indeed the umpire, Browne had a shocker given ct and bowled off the pad and another highly contencious LBW in the second innings and Westley also got one in the second innings.
-
Baldwin was umpire when we were all out for 20 v Lancs.
Never rated him!

Nick is on the radar but I think he needs at least this year plus (if/when we get promotion) some time in Div 1 to really test his technique etc, I do believe he will get there in due course.

That's the worry. He's pretty much the only player we have who's out of contract at the end of the season who we are going to be desperate to keep. If we don't go up there's a good chance he will feel he has to leave I think. The like's of Westley, Porter anf tendo all signed extensions at the end of last year even though they still had a year left. I would be surprised if Browne wasn't offerered one so the fact he has one year left is a worry.

Don't forget that Browne has to make the runs this season to justify moving to a 'proper' D1 club.
The CC has had a tendency to bite young 'stars' in their second full season, which given that he played a couple of matches in 2013 and 9 in 2014 means this is effectively the 'crunch' season.

Yep will be interesting to see if he can repeat his stats of last season. Also, in the day of the multi-dimensional players his style is not suited to one day cricket and he is a bit of a passenger in the field.
It's by no means a done deal that Div 1 teams would want him.
