In the land of the blind the one eyed etc.
Actually he's one of the premier batsmen in the world at this present moment. The likes of Cook and Amla are having bad spells at the moment, but JR can be bracketed with them as top drawer - not just someone who comes off occasionally when it suits him...

Joe Root is a delightful batsman to watch :D

We could very well see Joe Root & Stuart Broad as no 1's in batting & bowling soon - What an achievement that would be.

It's a team game. We should all want England to be no. 1 in the Test rankings above all else.

It's a team game.
Less so than football or rugby.
Which is part of cricket's appeal.

Indeed, but I always refer to a photo taken from the Windies batting in the 1979 World Cup final - the two batters Alvin Kallicharan and Joel Garner are physically completely different, their main roles also being completely different but both were integral to the side at that time. Many sports are or increasingly produce homogeneous players with similar physiques. Yes, you can still get shorter footballers but no longer the likes of Mickey (he's fat, he's round, he's rolling on the ground) Quinn or Frannie Lee whilst Rugby players of both codes are interchangeable.

Rugby players of both codes are interchangeable.
Only recently with the advent of professionalism in Union.
Mind you fat lads in cricket are also getting rare.

Of course, but as an aside it would be nice as well to have no 1's in both skills to boot!

England's premier batsman - you bet he is!!! The guy is total class on and off the field and will be the next and hopefully successful England captain. Not just a batter but his bowling is developing quite nicely and he's proving to be premier in the one-day formats also!!!
All this from making a stylish 50 on county debut in 2009 against...only Essex !

Don't let him hear you calling him fat. Got a bit of a temper.

Having seen one of his 'fights' I'd say I could run faster than him, over the first 20 metres. I do like hat song the barmy army sing about him and Vettori.
