I see we have a new sponsor. Does the fact that they are our 'Official Betting Partner' mean we still have an unofficial one at the club?
-
Given the previous form with betting at the club, did the club pick potential sponsors responsibly , or were the odds to good not to turn down !

I thank yaow...
-
Does this mean we'll have a betting tent back on the ground or will they operate from the back of Merv Westfield's wardrobe.
-
Personally I think it is morally wrong to associate with a betting firm, particularly with Essex's history in this matter.

Agreed but the club's moral compass went wonky years ago.

Agree as well.

Trouble is, it is the betting companies, pay-day loan sharks and dodgy website owners who are the only ones either with enough money or who are allowed to sponsor sport nowadays. Gone are the days of unlimited tobacco sponsorship. If Ford dropped us faster than a bog end from an Alfa Romeo, then who else would there be? The Samaritans?
-
I can remember the Samaritans having a tent at Garon Park for a couple of years, mind you I can't recall seeing any Essex fans disappearing in there although watching Essex sometimes is enough to make you!!!!
-
I remember the mobile betting shop at Ilford. Throughout the game you could observe through your binoculars at the other side of the ground. The same bunch of saddos watching the TV screens with their backs to the game.
-
Didn't Mark Waugh used to patronise the Ilford betting tent?

He's Australian. Probably had an each way bet on a fly crawling up the wall. ;)
-
Mark Waugh used to have a bet every Sunday league match that he would be top scorer in the match. before the days of spread betting where you can fix the score. what a legend.
-
Well I hope he had a fiver on when made his debut at Colchester! I remember the groan when it was announced Border wouldn't be playing then in comes Waugh and strokes a marvellous ton. Heady days!
-
Given the revelations over tennis, I would have thought that the club should be seriously reconsidering this new sponsor pdq!
Sends totally the wrong messages.
-
Think Alan Border has informed the club he would not be overseas player again and recommends M Waugh has his replacement . Who's he ?
August 1988 v Notts . Gooch goes early, in strolls Waugh who strikes a wonderful hundred on his debut in England and Essex . Also takes 2-16 with the ball. A wonderful career has started already !
Heady days indeed slogger

I can't believe that the delightful Ms Watson would throw a match?!
-
Will the childs/youths replica kit bear the sponsors name? Football clubs are barred from promoting gambling on shirts designed for those under 18.....Given the number of youngsters sporting replica kit, especially at T20 games, have we shot ourselves in the foot?
-
Unibet are shown as a partner as opposed to a sponsor so probably not. Not sure what one brings to the table that the other doesn't though.
-
Are they a valued partner though?
That was always Danny Macklin's mantra about our crap beer supplier.
