Title: Danny
Post by: squarelegumpire on August 17, 2015, 08:59:21 AM
Did I read somewhere that Danny was moving on? Sad if true, and one can only wish him all the best.

He's gone to Southend...I mean Sarfend...United.

Must like working for clubs with long stalled redevelopments.

He's leaving the club for in September for pastures new. Well, Sarfend.

He’s tried hard for Essex and I for one thank him and wish him well.

He’s tried hard for Essex

When discussing spectator improvements recently forum members could only come up with slightly better sandwiches.

Talked a good game but that was about it.

Sarfend are welcome to him.

His role was never to engineer a change of culture at the club. He did about as well as any marketing bod could given the problems on and off the field.

Maybe but the fulsome praise he receives is only because everyone else at the club is a complete incompetent.

If you analyse his performance objectively he didn't do much warranting recognition.

His strength was his willingness to communicate and engage with the supporter base.

His weakness was his inability to turn that engagement into change for the better.

Although I've never met the man his exceptional efforts to try to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear always seemed highly commendable to me. His work ethic -  posting responses on this forum and its precursor in the early hours of the morning - made me fear for his health. From a distance he seemed uber committed and dedicated to the cause and it would not surprise me if the dead weight of the club's structure foiled any meaningful initiative he may have wanted to pursue. I wish him well and I think he will prove yet another significant loss to the club.

Good luck to Danny in his new job.
I always found him helpful, eager to sort out problems and tried to do his best (in what I suspect is not an easy envoironment).

His team won ECB awards in 2010, 2011, 2012, so if Valentines Park think he has done nothing to gain recognition, what were the other 17 counties doing?

Was that for flogging T20 tickets?

Can't think what else it was for.

Certainly not that laughable "beer festival" which simply entailed even more Shepherd Neame swill than usual.

2010 and 2012 - Commercial Team of the Year

2011 - Best new / lapsed fan campaign and T/20 ticket activation.

Now, now it's a panacea for many ills: constipation, blocked drains, etc. indeed, serve it at Sangatte and there wouldn't be anything for The Daily Mail to worry about.

So I was right about T20 then.

Wonder what the commercial team did over & above the call of duty as we are one of the few counties that doesn't have naming rights secured.

Bl&$@y H*&£l, Valentine, don't you EVER see any good in anything? OPr anyone?

Or is there a prize somewhere for Old Misery of the year?

I sent the club an e-mail about the new advertising screen when it is used as a scoreboard, and he answered it, well I say answered, he didn't answer the points raised, just said how popular the use of the screen was at T20 matches.

The commercial department has won awards unlike the cricketing department. Sometimes seems ECCC is a marketing business that has cricket teams attached. The chief exec has spent most of his career in advertising, and the previous one was a marketing man, which explains why for years the focus has been on marketing a rubbish product, rather than improving the quality of the product.

I'm not that old ;)

As for praise it's only due when warranted.

Which is why it's in such short supply where Essex are currently concerned.

Good luck to Danny in his new role, Essex will miss him, at least he has done his best to help in what must be difficult circumstances, as said by a previous poster in making silk purses out of sow's ears.
Thank You Danny for all your efforts - at least you are visible around the ground every day & also approachable.

I personally think that the guy worked his socks off and like all good people his value will really be missed once he has gone.

Valentines Park, is there anything or anybody that you do not knock at Essex CCC, the slurs against this guy are totally unfounded and totally untrue.

What slurs?

Unless saying his performance wasn't all it was cracked up to be counts as a slur.

VP, your continued comments about an employee who isn't in a position to defend himself are inappropriate and unfair. You've made your opinion known, but that's enough on this now please.

Danny Macklin here using, with permission, someone else's log in

Would like to thank those above (perhaps with one exception - you can't please them all!) for their kind comments. I have been unable to post up until now and will probably make this my last but one post. Will post a comment on the Q&A section now, thanks

This thread pretty much sums up why I've not bothered to take a look at this forum for most of the season.

Here's a bloke who has absolutely worked his nuts off for the club and it's membership.  always ready to take on a challenge and he won a fair few as well.  I will personally miss him as he's a good guy.

some of you lot need a proper slap as well.  The moaners aren't even members in many cases.

unreal.

Before I respond: does anyone know how big Blocky is? Does he have access to fire arms/ sharp implements?

He’s not very tall, but he’s solid. Fairly recently ex-military too.

Good warning Andy!
