There's a match tomorrow at the county ground between Team Gooch and Team ten Doeschate to celebrate 150 years of Essex cricket. They're charging ?20 for adults to get in and yet apart from mentioning about 2 weeks ago that Sir Alastair Cook will be playing unless I've missed it I've seen nothing on it since. You wouldn't know it was on if you'd looked at the club social media over the last week or so. I have no interest in going myself but how you expect to attract people to the game if A you don't tell anyone who's playing and B don't mention the match is on I have no idea.
-
Another example of the club's incompetence.
-
I'm going but they are not opening the River Gate - one wonder's if that's cause they don't expect too many to come
-
I take it back. I can see exactly why they haven't been promoting it and exactly why they haven't mentioned who's playing until today! ?20 for a LEGENDS match featuring these teams! They're obviously embarrassed by the players they've been able to attract!

I thought they mentioned Alastair Cook?
Who are some of these 'players'?

It does say on the preview It is with regret that due to unforeseen circumstances Sir Alastair Cook has had to withdraw and is unable to play.
A few of the names like Gladwell, Rashid, Dwivedi and Bear I recognise from the 2nds scorecards. Ruben Thain, Noah brother, and Xander Silverwood, Chris' son have played a couple of games for the 2nds as well. Nordin, Newman and Freestone are the names I don't recognise.
-
The teams are at the same level, as the celebrity football team. In the Porridge film.
When the news was received that Alistair Cook was no longer playing. Is it the same as when Mr Mckay was informed, that David Diddy Hamilton had pulled out.

I *think* James Nordin and Joe Freestone are D40 ability players, Kit Newman is part of the 2026 academy intake.
It seems very light on the Metro Bank players too.

People - it?s for charidee.

Is it? You may be right but I've not seen anything anywhere to suggest it is. It's a match to celebrate 150 years of Essex cricket. Even if it is, charging ?20 a head for a LEGENDS match when the teams are full of players that were barely 2nd XI level is pretty awful.
-
Players who are not yet a legend in their own home.

Hmm, no Essex leg-ends from one of their golden eras of T20 incompetence?; you'd have thought that Shah, Grayson and Tim Mason as a minima, would have added to the events' (un)desirability!
-
No Nasser Hussain or Tim Phillips. Two players, who when they left Essex. Hit the ground running.
-
No Matt Coles. Would have been a shoe-in for RTD's team ;)
-
We have been advised of the team changes. Now can we be advised of the spectator changes.

I Attended the Team Gooch v Team Ten Doeschate 150th Anniversary Lengends Match. Team Tendo made 222 for 9 Wickets after 20 overs and team Gooch made 222 for 3 Wickets after 20 overs. The Match was tied. i enjoyed the match despite not many big name Essex players taking part :D
