The same squad. As much as I'd like to see a different result, Hampshire are a good T20 side with Vince playing.
Harmer, Akhter, Benkenstein, Bennett, Critchley, Das, Fernandes, Jones, Mulder, Pepper, Snater, Thain, Walter

Hard to see us winning. We always lose there and we're a worse side than we have been in previous seasons. Hampshire haven't won a match all season so can't be feeling great about life but even so. On the other hand Sussex were 92-0 after the 6 over powerplay today and only 79-1 against us so perhaps we're actually really good!

I was hoping that the Lions might release Allison for tonight. Sadly, didn't spend much time at the crease at Arundel and next fixture is not until Friday at Beckenham.
Assuming they don't, I guess it's the same team again.
Critchley needs to float at 3. Mistake putting him after the good start made by Walter and Pepper. If we have momentum in the innings, then better to send in Benkenstein or even Fernandes. Critch isn't a big hitter, so better to be used in a Joe Root type role, so sure up an innings if we lose early wickets.
Southampton might suit our spin attack. Big boundaries where you can ask the batsmen to take you on. I was at Old Trafford yesterday and Lanky did exactly that successfully v Notts.
-
Maybe someone should have ordered Omar Akram an Uber from New Malden to Southampton!!!!!
108* from 55 for the Two's v Surrey. 9 sixes and 7 fours.
Appreciate the difference in levels, but what do we have to lose for the next time out?
-
Essex won the toss and chose to chase. Probably the best choice with such an inexperienced seam attack. I hope they show some flexibility with the batting lineup. Fernandes should be given a chance higher up and Snater should come in if they need some late innings biffing.
Unchanged team:
Walter, Pepper, Critchley, Benkenstein, Mulder, Thain, Harmer, Fernandes, Snater, Akhter, Bennett
-
Didn't Stubbs do well against Essex last time? Here's their side. Bowling looks weaker than usual:
Vince, Albert, Weaherley, Prest, Stubbs, Cartwright, Fuller, Dawson, Currie, Neal, Wood
-
The stream audio is top quality. When is John Snagge coming on.
-
one +ve is that we look an athletic team in the field.
-
The unofficial stream, is mentioning Telegram. Not one informing you that you have won your bet.
-
Come on Essex, get to the end of the powerplay, before it is a foregone conclusion.
-
Well, 'taking the positives'... for most of that Hampshire innings I thought it was a much improved bowling performance, although things did get messy at the end. Charlie Bennett did very well until that final over. Our recent record in this format doesn't give me any confidence we can chase down 200, but at least we haven't been blasted out of contention already.
-
I was looking at another tab. So I missed the two wickets, whilst telegram Sam was speaking.
-
Another one, during typing the last message. I better watch the game.
-
Well, I'm going to take a wild guess that Essex won't get 71 in 15 balls.
Some positives: Bennett and Benkenstein. I'm struggling to think of anything else. Can the wooden spoon be avoided?

Er no.

I fear that may be right. I think Middlesex are a better side this season, despite losing the first 2 games.

Also another poor attendance, at half term, on a scorching night. The ECB truly know how to **** county cricket.
-
To add to the experience. There were a number of announcements about major rail disruption.
-
Gawd. We really aren't very good at this are we.
Strangely we were more-or-less neck and neck with the Hampshire innings right up until the 15 over mark, but whereas they exploded at that point, we fizzled out. We can't seem to put partnerships together in this. So many of our shots only bring 1, it seems our players don't have the improvisational skills to beat the fielders. 30 as a margin of defeat is actually flattering to us. Harmer's blitz at the end, when the match was already over, was reminiscent of his whirlwind 50 last year, also when the match was already over. Perhaps he needs to bat higher up and give himself a chance of doing it when it matters? Or why not try Snater up the order? I've been wondering for ages why they never give that a go. Might not come off but jeez, they have to try something.
-
Essex don?t care about T20 cricket. After last years total embarrassment they have literally done nothing to improve the team. In fact swapping Amir for Mulder they?ve made it even worse.
-
Another poor night for Essex. Sadly I do not see us winning a game this season.
Positives, first are that Bennett bowled well, Benky and. Thain batted well.
Good to see the younger players doing well.
May as well play as many young players as we are not competitive at this level.
Mudler looks like the worse signing ever, cant bowl or bat! Did this guy really score 375? Two overs for 33 and scored 14 off 15. He will have to be dropped .

They were a better side than us last year and we look even worse than last year.

End of the day, we've not got the resources to manage both white and red ball cricket, so we have to prioritise. We chose to prioritise red ball cricket and that's the right decision whilst we have the likes of Harmer, Porter etc keeping us competitive in D1. Compare our overseas players tonight to theirs (two proven white ball stars, especially Stubbs). They are also paying good money to white ball only domestic players like Vince, Wood and now Dawson.
But it's costing Hampshire on the red ball front, where they are about to get relegated, so I'd rather be in our position personally.
-
Having just witnessed a long slow lingering death I can tell it is no fun.
Absences injuries and inadequate replacements tell the sad story of what for me must rate one of the poorest if not the poorest of a T20 side ever taken the field.
Hampshire were better, sharpe, more powerful in every respect.Men against boys with the bowling and in Stubbs and Cartwright their brutalisation of a inexperience attack in the last five overs, demonstrated the embarrassing gap between the sides.
I confess I left when Mulder was out and the writing was writ large. The choice was witnessing the inevitable being pragmatic and avoiding car park chaos often taking forty minutes plus to exit.
If I wanted salt rubbed into the wound I could always watch the events unfold unflinchingly on Sky.
Happy days.👿👿👿

You?re right but there is no excuse to be this bad at t20. They were embarrassing bad last year and they?ll be lucky to win more than a game or two. We have been a good red ball team for ten years now and have until last year been generally been pretty competitive in white ball cricket.

Essex will win a game. When they meet opponents, who on the day. Play worse than they do.
Sky pulled the plug on Telegram Sam, four overs from the end. I did not think, that I would be grateful for an illegal stream being removed.
-
Talking of Sky I thought their coverage was poor. Inane drivel from a bunch of ex players, confusing and at times inaccurste graphics coupled with the cameras missing the ball a few times. A shame they have this tournament. The ECB shouldn't let one broadcaster have everything.
-
At one point, they showed highlights from the first season of the Blast. Cue, self-indulgent drivel from the ex players. Telegram Sam then interjected. No doubt saying, place your bets on which ex player is the biggest boring old, you know the rest.

Chief Sky circus master Nick Knight should be put to rest.
-
The same can be said about the Sky team, as was said about the old guard on Test Match special. That, they sounded like a variety artist going on one farewell tour, too many.
-
The competition has become like the Metro bank, gives the younger players a window for first team duties ahead.
Mulder clearly is a red ball player only.
Batters do not stay in long enough to make a difference, although most suffered by being caught in the deep, at least Cox and Allinson still to be available.
Will take two red ball 🔴 wins over this.
