After the Forum. We were all counting the size of the squad, and wondering after injuries, unavailability and being a non-person. Who is going to do a Doug Insole at Yeovil in 1969. By being a last minute and reluctant eleventh member of the team.

The whole recipe seems designed for relegation this season. We've been flying by the seat of our pants for years. Now with one or two injuries/unavailabilities and poor o/s recruitment we're going to crash and burn.

Who can remember the handbook with Gooch, Childs, Pringle and Foster on the front cover all playing for England against WIndies at the Oval ?
Essex still had Championship fixture to fulfil at the same time, so this is the  Essex side selected without also injured Hardie to play Northamptonshire.

East
Stevenson
Border
Prichard
Fletcher
Lilley
Hussain
Miller
Topley
Lever
Ilott

Three test captains, two CEO s, six England players ( before or after this fixture).
Ilott made his county debut .

Northants were also threadbare missing Lamb, Bailey and Capel .
Essex won by 4 wickets .

But this is the same story as in the 1990s when any concerns about forward planning were dismissed as so called supporters. A steady decline over 20 years followed.

So that's three jobs Chris Silverwood is doing then, never mind two. He's essentially replaced not only Anthony McGrath, but also Mick Lewis and filled Dan Feist's silly little Director of Cricket job. What a sorry state of affairs.

Well I?m sure Nat could help out with the communications side and let Spoons look after the bowling.

It's pleasing that you have recognised my communication skills.
