Overall, the Tier 1 counties will be required to have a minimum of 15 contracted players with a minimum salary of ?20,000, the same as new male players.
Those counties will be required to invest a minimum of ?500,000 on player salary costs, but not exceed ?800,000.
First game for newly formed Essex is away against newly formed Durham .
-
How are they going to get the income, to pay those salaries.
Still, nice work if you can get it.

'Essex captain Grace Scrivens hopes a "family feel" will help them to be a competitive force in the inaugural domestic season of fully professional women's cricket.
Eight tier one teams will compete in the One-Day Cup and T20 Blast this season, with a new county-based format replacing the regional structure of recent years.
Several Essex players were part of the Sunrisers squad which won the 50-over Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy in 2024 and they start their One-Day Cup campaign away to Durham on Wednesday.
"We're all excited and to launch the new Essex team will be really fun," Scrivens told BBC Essex Sport.
"I think it's really important to have the base at Chelmsford, and build the fan base as well. We love playing here, it's always a great home for us.
"Every set-up is very different, but I think we're luck have a real family and home feel around Essex." ................'

Got slaughtered by Durham first game. Bodes well.
-
Seems like a ridiculous burden on the finances of the clubs unless all funding is direct from some women's game magic money tree that the ECB have bestowed upon the counties with Tier 1 status.
Can't see anyway that the club can even get close to breaking even on running costs for this without some very spicy account book cooking.

Reckon their first goal is to see if it takes them less than 103 years to win a trophy.

Funding comes from the special ECB 'woke' fund.
-
I would dispute that it is a woke fund.
However, a substantial amount is being thrown at Women's Cricket. For what may be little return.
Give it a few years, and it will be, unless you can pay your way. You are not going on the England tour.
-
Guess Meteor way is not accessible for the women?s fixtures ?
-
It would be possible for everyone to use the Public Car Park, next door to Meteor Way.

I worked with Shirley Hodges, England wk in the 1980s - she had to not only lose pay to go on tour but also arrange supply cover. We also had two NZ test players staying with us because that was the only way the tour could happen. I also scored some of the matches because they did not bring a scorer.
I don't want to go back to those days.

Unlikely to be available free to members. Pay the parking fee if you want to attend, or do what I will do.....don't go.

I think the major concern is that the men?s game could be hit by these worthy investments in the distaff version. I could seriously see county cricket going semi pro for clubs like ours. That may be what certain administrators ultimately want but it is not like Man City throwing a few million at a women?s team.

Another thumping defeat, this time to Warwickshire (having had them 123-6 at one point). Essex women conceded 39 extras!
I hope I'm proved wrong, but so far they don't look a great side. Or maybe just an inexperienced one.
-
It's the majority of the Sunrisers side that won the 1 day cup last season.
-
In this embarrassment, the last wickets were lost for five runs.
Any more of these, and I would advise it is in everybody's best interests to pack it in.
-

Good point. I didn't realise that. I just compared the teams from Sunrisers in last year's final and this match and they're almost the same, except for Mady Villiers. So not much excuse then. Let's hope they improve.

Yep, let's bin off the 3 year project after 2 games!!!
-
Let's not bin it after two games. Give them a chance, have a review after four games.
-
Essex will struggle to compete financially with the other sides. There is the ECB funds but I think I'm right in saying clubs can also spend their own cash. The way I understand it, Essex (probably realising this) are going down the route of concentrating on youth and growing our own. That could well take time but show the rewards long term.
End of the day it's an Essex side and I'm sure we would all want to see them do well.
-

Different competition this year with all the England players available and the rest of the counties also signing quality overseas players whilst we have the only team with zero international caps among them. Based on the past two games we will do well to win a game.
-
Currently 2/3 against Somerset. Yep...you heard me right!

From BBC cricket
Essex women have signed England-capped opening batter Lauren Winfield-Hill on loan from Yorkshire for the 2025 Vitality Blast.
Winfield-Hill, 34, has played over 100 matches for England across Test, One Day International and Twenty20 cricket, wining the 2017 ODI World Cup.
She has scored almost 4,000 T20 runs, playing in Australia's Big Bash and the Caribbean Premier League, while also representing the Northern Superchargers in the Hundred.
"Signing for Essex on loan this season makes perfect sense, and it's an opportunity I'm really excited about," said Winfield-Hill.

A question I would ask the Essex team. Is, have you broken 200? Followed by, have you broken anything else?

How well did the men do in their first season?
-
Let's be honest, they could win everything and a few on here would find some reason to dig them out!!!

Exactly - where was the praise for the Sunrisers last season?

I'll say it once more....completely different tournament. No England players involved, no top overseas players. The equivalent of Leicestershire winning the One Day Cup whilst everyone else plays reserve teams due to the 100.
As I type this, England's Heather Knight looks like guiding Somerset to victory. That's the same Somerset who were garbage last season, but you put Knight, Charlie Dean and co into their team and it's a different story. Essex though, have zero international players and on paper, have by far the weakest squad in the competition on paper whenever everyone plays their best XI and that is coming to fruition.
-
And I would wager everyone has a much higher wage bill than Essex, hence the long term plan of looking to bring players through the Academy set up. That isn't a quick fix

And .. where was the praise? A trophy is a trophy ... give the new team a chance. The men took 103 years to win anything.
Have you looked at the Div 2 table recently?
-
Might upset a few, but a good win today.
-
Book the open Top Bus and arrange the Firework display.

Quite a comprehensive win too. Well done to Essex women, let's hope this gives them confidence and they continue from here.
-
Anyone watching the women's T20? On a related note, has anyone got a white flag or a towel?
-
Have now won two out of three T20 Blast fixtures.
With no international players and other teams got call ups wonder if level playing field had helped together with loanees .
-
WH coming in on loan has been a big boost. Given some energy at the top of the order.
-
Seen my first bat check, first wicket down new bat Griffith had to present her bat to the umpire for gauge check in the game against Somerset .
-
Best wishes to the Essex player who looked like she tore her ACL yesterday. Just seen it on the highlights, nasty stuff.

Cordelia Griffith. She was having a good season too. A really nasty injury.
