Under the new white ball era, can England go from Chumps to Champs without any form ?
Cannot afford to be slow starters has only three games , Aussies, Afghans and SAfrica .

I prefer to watch an afternoon Greyhound meeting at Monmore, as it has greater importance.

Something else that has gone to the dogs.
-
Well, that has got the tournament off to a good start, for Australia.
-
England really are the pits when it comes to ODI. Probably the bowling & fielding is the major problem. It is difficult to expect them to beat anyone decent in the near future & they wil undoubtedly be outplayed by some lesser teams. It is embarrassing

Those poor dumb animals being forced by their cruel masters to perform week after week?you know what happens to them when they get too old? Yes, a miserable life commentating on Sky Sports.

A better Captain would help. I think Morgan would have been more proactive and not let the heads drop. England were about 30 runs short and then Archer and Carse had bad days. A pity because that was a fine innings from Duckett, eclipsed by Inglis. And this was England's best chance of beating the Aussies in a long time.

30 runs short if they bowl and field like morons. Can we do our own prisoner exchange Carse for Inglis?

It?s different players who fail in each match. I like Butler as an individual but with this run of form something has to change. We have to try a different approach not continue to stumble on in the same old way.
-
There seems to be no total that can?t be exceeded against England. There was a time when we could exert control & even defend even modest scores. Not so now. Teams are constantly breaking records against us. If these bowlers can?t ever exert control they should be dropped. Since Archer has returned he seems to be a shadow of his former self & will be of little use in the Ashes!

Sports reporting on the BBC this morning.
1) Rugby
2) Football
3) Scottish Football (Rangers and Celtic)
4) A boxing title fight won by a Russian boxer, you have never heard of before.
5) A mention that India will be playing Pakistan later
6) The One-day International yesterday.
If there had been an important horse race yesterday, that may have been at number 5.

Plunkett effect . England miss him terribly.
-
Today on the BBC, the last sports item.
They gave more time to, with today's opponents. Discussing, with the sports minister, the possibility of a new Gleneagles agreement, than with the England team.
-
Credit to the two Essex supporters, noticed in the Lahore ground earlier.
Where they pressed ganged from an Ambassador Cruise ?

That?s a foul calumny against a superb provider of sea based adventures, Jim Lad!

Oh dear.
Has Clipperton Island got a Cricket team to play.

I genuinely don't know whether Key and Luke Wright know the difference between 50 over and 20 over cricket. The 50 over side always looks like a T20 team to me whereas other siides are a lot closer to Test Teams. Salt, Livingstone and Overton in particular are T20 players. Key also has this obssesion with 90 mile an hour bowlers. Mark Wood is 35 and has never been very good at 50 over cricket.

Or to summarise... Key is an idiot.

Famous for its booby?s I hear.

Lost against India, but nobody will be worried if we won the Champions League .
Well two games in and already out , the only thing we do properly with pace is depart early .
-
No worries for the players though. They'll be off to the next franchise circus before you can say 'kerching'.

Indeed. Buttler, Livingstone, Brook, Salt, Archer, Carse, Overton and Bethell are all in the IPL.
On the plus side, this was a good tournament for Sam Cook.

As The Cricketer subscriber, I have received in my inbox. An article, from George Dobell asking, who is to blame for the England performance.
Whoever, it is. The position is being reached, where it is irretrievable.

So what? Who cares about 50 over cricket? Certainly not the ECB.

No mention of the Cricket on the BBC this morning.
They did, although it is a rest weekend, mention the Six Nations. England, are holding a training session that is open to the Public. The coach, hinted that it was aimed at school parties.
The England Cricket team would not do this, as they would get unsolicited advice from fans. What is worse, is the advice would be correct.
-
Surely with our recent record in international ODI we must be closed to being demoted to a non qualified sides together with the WIndies.

If there was any danger of that, the ICC would change the rules. Not in the top 8 ODI sides? No problem, we'll make it a 10 team tournament.
-
If this was the same format as the Davis Cup. England would find themselves in the same group as Thailand and The Cook Islands.
-
Buttler walks the gang plank and resigns captaincy with a record of W18 L25 . Says it all really .
-
Those central contracts have been well worth the money.
-
Carry on up the Kybher . A handbrake off production .
-
It is a golden rule of one day cricket, that you try to bat out the overs. Not finish twelve overs short.
-
Well the clock on the wall says we have a little time to fill, about two hours in fact.
-

The South Africans finished more than twelve overs short.
Lynda
-
The idea is, not to leave the South Africans, overs short. So that, if it was on the BBC. They would have to put on episodes of Animal Park, Bargain Hunt and Escape to the Country.
-
We seem to have invented a new format ?The 38?. A revamp of the old John Player Special competition.
-
The old Sunday League had 38 and 39 over games, if the overs were not bowled by 4.20. Or in the case of Essex at the Oval a 40 over game became a 39 over game and back to 40 overs again, due to a late start. Nobby Philips then hit the extra over all round the ground.
That helped in winning the league.

1981?
-
Yes, it was 1981 and there was a discussion between the Umpires, and Essex Fans on the Pavilion steps.
The Umpires would have said, by the time I learn the playing regulations, they change them again.
-
Yes 1981. A brilliant day. So many near misses in that competition. The Sunday League and the way Essex approached it probably saved the club.
Going back to England I should think quite a few of that squad shouldn't be picked again in 50 over games. Too many T20 specialists who can't vary their games, in my opinion. No credible second spinner and a bevy of tall fast bowlers with dodgy fitness records.
I would move on from Salt (woeful yesterday), Overton, Carse, Wood (ludicrous to ask him to bowl when clearly injured) to name but four. Buttler must be on borrowed time (not much of a keeper and not delivering much with the bat).
-
Losing with plenty of overs to spare did not just happen in the last fixture, but several games in India.
The handbrake off approach to play to full potential works if players are in form, but is so easy to let others take responsibility if they fail.
Selectors had no consistency picking players, so some take the career path of franchise over country.
