Title: Squad for England tour of West Indies
Post by: Oldhasbeen on November 12, 2023, 08:58:02 AM
ODI squad: Jos Buttler (captain), Rehan Ahmed, Gus Atkinson, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Zak Crawley, Sam Curran, Ben Duckett, Tom Hartley, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, Ollie Pope, Phil Salt, Josh Tongue, John Turner.

T20I squad: Jos Buttler (captain), Rehan Ahmed, Moeen Ali, Gus Atkinson, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, Tymal Mills, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Josh Tongue, Reece Topley, John Turner, Chris Woakes.

Good to see some new -ish blood here, but I'm disappointed we're sticking with Moeen and Woakes for the T20s - time to move on, srely?

And move on from Buttler.

Disappointed that Matt Critchley doesn't get a look in (even in the Lions UAE training squad). He offers just as much as Livingstone, but I guess the ECB need to try to get value from their 2 year contract.

Good cricketer. Better than a lot in the England set up.

This ODI squad would’ve done better than the muppets masquerading as Team England. Feel sorry for our most successful bat in this tournament. At 37 he’s too old but we’ll keep Anderson on a contract until he’s 80.  This is not what central contracts were for…they were only for those most likely to be at the core of any England team in the near future, not an old boys club.

England international cricket really has been destroyed to the extent where it is now nothing more than endless franchise matches where the outcome has no value or context from a sporting point of view.

Imagine if England's footballers or rugby players had 8 international matches scheduled straight after a World Cup.

Watching Essex 2s v Sussex 2s would literally be more absorbing.

Rob Key said he should be blamed "more than anyone" for England's failure at the World Cup because he prioritised Test matches over the 50-over format.
The defending champions' hopes of reaching the semi-finals were ended by six defeats in their first seven games.
England's managing director Key defended captain Jos Buttler and gave coach Matthew Mott his "full backing", while conceding he had not allowed them to prepare with their best team.
"That's not their fault," Key said.

Thanks Rob, cannot multi task.
Oh, and the Test match stage, slow starters which resulted in NOT  regaining the Ashes, which should have been paramount.

Mr Key’s stunning revelations presumably means he will be looking for a successor?
