Title: Hampshire (A)
Post by: dazedpenguin on June 23, 2023, 02:53:40 PM
Beard and Allison for Snater and Nijjar? This one is going to be tough.

Harmer, Allison, Beard, Buttleman, Critchley, Das, Khushi, Lawrence, Nijjar, Pepper, Sams, Snater, Walter, Westley

Bear and Allison in for Snater and Nijjar. Could reverse the batting order.

Worth a try.

Hampshire won the toss and put Essex in. Losing less than 3 in the power play would make a pleasant change.

Harmer is a useless tosser, .........but we still love him.

Nasser lost about 11 in a row when he was England captain -

Fantastic start from Lawrence and Khushi, but Hampshire fought back well and Essex let it slip a little. Hampshire can definitely chase down 210, especially with Vince averaging about 80 in the tournament.

A sign of the times when you're a bit disappointed with 209-7 off 20 overs. Das batting at no.9 - a tactical move or was he stuck in the loo when he was schedule to bat?!

Even by our standards the last 6 or so overs were awful

An appropriate place for our side.

The scorecard on the feed is always two balls behind. Is the operator busily checking their Twitter feed or OnlyFans page?

Anyone enjoying the Norman Collier live at the Fish and Chip shop audio?

Personally I’d prefer silence or the real Norman Collier.

That drop from Khushi was appalling.

Those last 4 overs were embarrassing to watch.

Bowled and fielded poorly after Vince dismissal, did we think it was game over ?
A set of stumps to bowl at and the odd short ball not evident .

Such a tough watch. A well drilled, well captained side wins that game comfortably. Utterly inevitable defeat.

We threw that away

Some sloppy batting after a great start, expensive bowling and shoddy fielding. One notable exception was Buttleman who impressed behind the stumps. Beard did ok on his return, but no one could match John Turner who got Hampshire back into the match. It had an air of inevitability about it, which seems crazy with a score of 209.

I hope the younger players learn from this (and work on their fielding!). But the middle order really let the side down this time.

Both tonight and the competition for this season. Not even in a top 4 place and still to play Surrey away.

Having watched Essex at first hand tonight I do not think they want to progress in this competition, given the profligacy with which they threw away such a great start.

If only we had one or two good middle order batsmen, able to punish bad balls and tiring bowlers. But we haven’t, and there is te difference.

This was a very dispiriting performance  epitomised by four catches going down at crucial moments.

The bowling was poor, fielding shoddy and the batting following the openers, totally abject. But what is new. These observations have been made the whole season.

It would help if we had a Vince who yet again was imperious, and quickly calmed any nerves his colleagues may have had. The punishment he handed out to Sams was dismissive, particularly a sequence of three fours and a six in five balls.

The ease with which Fuller, Howell and Dawson, just put bat to ball off admittedly poor bowling was salutary. Fly swatting comes to mind.

Essex should have scored at least 230 on a very good wicket, but even then, I doubt if that would have been good enough.

Maybe it is not such a bad thing I see Essex only a few times a year. Any more and I would worry with a deep depression.

This has to be the most dislikable white ball team we've had since the T20 began. I can take losing to better teams, but I just hate being outfought and having no bottle. If there's one thing Essex have been famous for in cricket, it's always been for having some fight and bottle about them even when we're not very good (basically the opposite of the rich, posh boys like Surrey, Middlesex and Kent). These lot just don't seem to have that. Am I being too harsh?

Give Critchley the white ball captaincy from next year. A tough Northern lad might be what's needed to sort these soft jokers out. Also, despite his batting and fielding, we'd probably be a better side with Porter in it right now. Because he has heart, fight and would never give up.

We're glad someone has seen something in Buttleman's keeping - we watched him in the Durham v Essex Second XI final the other year, the one that Quinn threw away, and thought he had promise.  Think he's a better keeper than Pepper - and, by the sounds of it, Rossington.

Khushi’s laughable mistake when the ball hit him and it ricochet off him whilst he was gormlessly looking around reminded me of some of my better performances in the field.

I haven't seen too much of him standing up to Harmer, but I don't remember him dropping anything. Rossington has very fast hands, but he's missed a lot of chances this season. Let's see how Buttleman plays in the Warwickshire game.

From what we've read on here, fast hands aren't much use if you can't move quickly enough to reach the ball!

There's a definite theme of fattism on this forum. I'm not a porkie myself but I'm thinking of getting up a petition in support of all ample bodied people.

Leave AR alone.
