Title: T20 World Cup 2022
Post by: bwildered on October 03, 2022, 07:45:17 AM
Jos Buttler (captain), Moeen Ali, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Alex Hales, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood.
Travelling reserves: Liam Dawson, Richard Gleeson, Tymal Mills.

Decent run up with a series win in Pakistan. Seems like they are keeping expectations low. Interim Captain Moeen stating they are not favourites with Aussies and India teams to look out for.

Just got a 3 game friendly series against the Aussies has preparation.
The big guns are back with Stokes and Buttler flexing there muscles in game 1 of 3, however the talking point was when in chasing Wade clearly obstructed Wood ( with a hand off ) from catching him out.
Buttler diplomatically did not review, perhaps only a friendly and also wanting to know how the bowlers would cope with the Wade innings in the tight finish.
Or are games more friendly these days with so much franchise cricket most players know the opposition has team mates rather than rivals ?

Just when you forget what a bunch of bankers the Aussies are, their ageing keeper gets his paws stuck onto the chest of Mark Wood. Twice.

The problem with making a scene about this is that Butler didn’t have his eyes on the incident and there’s always an opportunity for a similar scenario to happen in reverse.

Mind you, I’d have kept running and trod all over Wade’s back with my spikes. Aussie Scrot.

I’m sure that we enjoyed England winning and Australia being hammered.

Catches win matches for England has every wicket taken in the innings was a catch. Sam Curran unfortunately did not take a hat trick, but did walk off has Englands first player to take a pfeiffer in this format.

Couple of uncommon situations in matches, Pakistan keeper Rizwan not standing up at the wicket to the spinner in the final over and De Kock throwing glove off but the return hits it conceding five runs and a free hit .
But also batter Kohli being bowled by free hit delivery which resulted in three runs !
Two big games for England this week with the holders looming at MCG.

Could have been a world game changer with a five over slog . Complete slog feast with a final ball victory would have eradicated T20 and 16.4 in one foul swoop and old hat .
At least England survive another day.

The forecast looks better for the rest of the tournament (although the final is in Melbourne on the 13th  and the forecast doesn't go up that far yet).

Not that I think England will be there.

One hurdle overcome with a competent win over the Kiwis, but need to continue that form with a win over Sri Lanka to progress further with run rate possibly to determine final table positions.

Now safety in the semis due to Stokes mindful innings over muscle against Sri Lanka, which eliminated the hosts and previous winners from the final stages.

Whenever there’s a tight match,if you look back, you find the losers have put down at least one critical and sometimes easy chance and the winners have held on to their chances, often brilliantly.
England clearly, understand this as substitute fielder Jordan is always there in a key fielding position when the overs are running out.

Emphatic win for England in the semis, ten wicket win being recorded,  let’s hope they have not peaked a game to early. Will be a intriguing final, judging by the series just played out in Pakistan last month,  which England managed to win on the final game. England should be quietly confident, but if the  top order of Rizwan and Babar, which troubled England throughout, get a foothold in the game anything is possible.

Good that it's being broadcast free-to-view. Shame (if predictable) about the weather.

Thankfully the rain held off for a full 20/20 encounter, with England now the proud holders of both the 20/20 and 50 over World white ball competitions. Strangely Stokes did not get the MOM for the only fifty in the game to see the match home, Curran claimed the prize with three wickets and also took the player of the tournament.
A year is a long time in cricket, with the red ball side getting totally stuffed twelve months ago down under .

Bowlers win matches, in games like these.

Stokes was the weak link in this team…apparently…although he dug us out of trouble on more than occasion. Never understood the dislike against him - wins tight matches for us, annoys the opposition and kicks the s**t out of homophobic drunks. What’s not to like?

If all England matches were broadcast on FTA television, Ben Stokes would be arguably the biggest sporting star in this country. Sky Sports and the ECB have blood on their hands.

England are obviously so poor in every format we have no alternative but to change the entire domestic structure of the game. There can't be any other motive can there?

Indeed. Nothing to see here…
