Any bets he now returns to ECCC as Walkers replacement? If we're so hard up I'd rather spend the cash on a seam bowler...

Careful what you wish for: GG could still turn his arm over...

Perhaps he'll open the batting on Sunday in Cook's absence :D

Well as the saying goes, form is temporary and class is permanent so perhaps we should reunite Gooch with Hardie as our opening partnership.

I find this sacking rather strange. I know I'm a critic of GG as a blinkered and unimaginative captain and team coach, but I had thought his relationship with AC would make him safe whilst the latter remained skipper.
It's rather odd, explicitly GG has been dispensed with by his protégé rather than Moores, although AC recommends players still seek Gooch's advice informally. Either AC has decided to blame GG for the lack of any batting competence from the team over the winter or the Moores regime wants to get rid of excess baggage...

Clear the decks ...ensure there is only 1 general.

That's the official version of events.
Moores probably doesn't see the need for a star jumps coach.

Napoleon said there were good generals & lucky generals.
So it must take some going to end up with neither.

Yes, that is strange. Cook is unlikely to be Gooch's line manager.
My guess is that the Gooch-Cook relationship has just gone stale. Cook himself has been coached by GAG for 10+ years and probably feels the need for a change. I'd be very surprised if there had been a bust-up. I recall Jimmy Anderson saying that the harder they tried (in the last Ashes series) the worse it got. It could also be said that Gooch's generation are out of touch - he didn't have experience of DRS (with the increased risk of lbws), nor did he ever play T20.
I'd be equally surprised if Gooch's replacement had not already been lined up.

IanS. Isn't it a mark of a competent coach to keep up to date with changes in one's field of expertise? Well, he always did plant a pad in front of middle and off then swing through the line - put two fielders in close for midwicket catches. Hang on, sounds familiar from last winter????
-
He should be the next club president in my opinion. He's done a lot for the county without pay and it wouldn't surprise me to see him doing some unpaid batting coaching with the team. I'm underwhelmed by Moores - I hope i'm wrong but I'm not confident he can turn England round

Could we offer Grayson to England and have Gooch back? ;D
-
Goochie had better dust off his kit by the sounds of it!

what a great suggestion, i might put that in the suggestion box next time i'm at chelmsford.

Dear me, no way. We want some new ideas at the club, not someone to supervise the star jumps.

Never have been a great fan of the two birds analogy. Why on earth would anyone want to kill our annual pied wagtail visitors anyway ?
A better saying for me is that a new broom sweeps clean (although at Essex it needs a pretty stiff broom admittedly)
