"I’m also pleased to invite you to a special cricket Q&A event in the Doug Insole Pavilion after Day Two (08 April) of the LV= Insurance County Championship match against Kent. Members will have an opportunity to meet the new faces in the coaching and playing staff, alongside Anthony McGrath and Tom Westley."
I'll be there and will try to report back -
-
I much prefer the QA sessions at lunchtimes rather than at the end of play.
I can understand (with players attending this session) it has to be after play but for future sessions lunchtime is much more practical.
-
Did anyone go - if so what was said?
-
Very few questions from members - panel was Tom Westley, Maggs, Mick Lewis, plus the three new signings Mark, Adam and Matt.
Westley happy with first two days - Mick felt bowlers were not at their best.
No idea when we'll see Simon Harmer - will seek a replacement if needed.
Signings were to add depth and experience to squad. All three fitting in well.
Westley asked re meeting up with Siddle - anticipating banter - no easy gamess in Div 1. Feels that having crowds back is important for Essex - best supported team in the countrt.
Two people asked whether Beard or Walter were considered - both fit. Walter considered, Beard thought more white ball.
A gentleman asked about pitch preparation for this game - Maggs said most counties aim for best pitches [except for Taunton 2019]
Nothing of real significance though it was great to hear our new signings being so positive.
-
There was some discussion about T20 - Mick Lewis said he needed to look at ground dimensions. Adam and Matt talked about playing iin a different group and researching new players they will come across.
-
I went along to the Pavillion but did not stay. I thought that two days in is a bit early to discuss Playing and Coaching.

Thanks for update.
Other than putting names to faces, PR exercise where the majority of members in non attendance, which is quite convient. Putting meetings on after full day's play is inconvient for many .

Rossington and Critchley seemed to be sensible enough in their interviews. Don't know if they are Brearley class tactians but clearly the rather captaincy by numbers approach doesn't work if effectively you only have 2.5 bowlers.
