Good to see RTD continuing his Essex form into the World T20. However I did not think that he was out...

Well at least this week in the World T/20 we have had one ex Essex player on the winning side.

Well RTD thought it was out ...and he never thinks he's out LBW.

Not weird. RTD can hardly buy a run at the moment. Not a fan of the Netherlands' League of Nations selection approach.

To be fair, other sides seemed to have followed the Jackie Charlton approach: seemingly having eaten in an appropriately themed restaurant qualifies for representing that country.
Actually feel sorry for RtD, he’s not going out with a whimper let alone a bang.

He wasn't dropped. It was his decision not to play.

I see that RTD yesterday announced his retirement from International cricket and I believe from Essex as well which is sad but has been on the cards this past season.
All long innings inevitably end, some with a flourish some not. Ryan’s seems to be the latter.
When I recall, diminishing memory allowing, of all the key disciplines that he has featured in, with bat ball and superlative catches, his loss and legacy will be huge.
He was a player and a half, with a shrewd cricket brain, guiding Essex on and off the field to some of their most memorable successes.
In recent years, last decade and more we have enjoyed unrivalled success, and for a County with our resources, performed well above our standing. Ryan was integral to that.
Very interesting now to see what he does. Will he coach, manage or enter new avenues totally away from cricket?
One of our beloved County’s best who will be regarded as one of our most successful players.
Here’s to you Ryan, a happy and fulfilling retirement.

It's a shame he didn't go out on a high, but maybe he didn't want the fanfare of a guard of honour etc. I think he'd be a good coach- it doesn't always follow, of course, but in his case, I'd be surprised if it didn't.

It was indicated during his presentation at lunchtime against Northants that he had been given a back room roll of some capacity at the club, has his experience was too invaluable to lose .

He shouldn’t have played for them at the World Cup really. His body language during the Namibia game was so poor and got pointed out on commentary. Possibly (and in the end was) his final game, he should have been shouting and rallying his team. Instead all he offered was a silent double teapot. He’d given up, shocking really.

I've always been a fan of RTD, but I suspect that he's a little bit emotional at times. I hate to say it but Stevens has proven to be more durable. Just think if we'd swapped aging all rounders a couple of seasons ago...

Do you honestly think Darren Steven could have played the 2018 innings v Surrey @ Oval or the 2019 inning v Surrey @ Chelmsford or the BWT innings @ Lords?
I don't - his captaincy in 2019 was crucial to us ...

I do. Plus Stevens is a better bowler. However until the last two seasons RTD did his bit t for the team. Not a great skipper but a marked improvement on his predecessor.

I hate to say it but Stevens has proven to be more durable.
Stevens batting is shot too for the most part.
He'll probably be able to bowl those dibbly dobblies well in to his 50s though.

If you mean a century and half century (albeit against Leicestershire and Worcestershire) and 47 in the T20 finals day then I suppose his batting is ‘shot’.

He scored more CC runs than any of our batsmen did this season!

Not saying much really when you're comparing him to the likes of Westley.
