Title: SA series 2020
Post by: bwildered on November 30, 2020, 06:16:44 PM
Well you could say a standard two nil series T20 win against South Africa with one game still to play. Both games tighter than the results suggest, but some fine performances by England players.
Jonny Bairstow with 80 odd in the first game, with several sliced boundaries. The at present undroppable Dawid  Malan scoring 50 plus from No3 position, almost seeing the job home being the only discrepancy in the innings  and Rashid who keeps taking wickets with short but impressive leg spin bowling displays.

Well the dead rubber third game became a six slug feast, twenty two in all. Malan missed out on a well deserved century by one run with a miscalculation, but importantly saw the game over the line first.
The amount of sixes became tedious in the end though, even with England victorious, and this form of the game is no better being one sided with bat over ball.

Malan is some T20 player! Every time I've seem him bat for Middx v us in T20 he's always done the business & looked awesome (thank goodness we don't face him now), looks like Roy is really struggling at present too.

Yes, Malan is always a player you wanted to get early or he would hurt you . Has really progressed in white ball, having initially playing in the Test team, (the same time has Tom Westley). He has taken his chance with both hands,  but did not realise he was already 35, with no disrespect, thought he was younger.
Jason Roy is struggling at the top of the order in T20, but perhaps a run in the 50 over game might get him back on track, otherwise his place could well be under pressure with Root and Ali awaiting in the wings.

He is younger.  He is 33.

It’s really strange to have an England team that has strength in depth. Clearly there are those, like Roy and Root, who are out of form but in the past there wouldn’t be any alternative. Just think back to when Gooch or Cook would have to carry the batting. Although not perfect, it is quite good to see the national team not being a running joke.
