Title: Football related injuries...
Post by: Andy on January 02, 2020, 03:52:38 PM
Quelle surprise. Rory Burns has done an ankle in yet another pre-match footie kickabout.  Clearly Spoons hasn't learnt anything...

...you couldn't make it up.

Unbelievably irresponsible. Spoons and/or Root must carry the can. This England team is becoming an embarrassment. Spoons needs to take control or walk away.

Still, probably the best thing to happen to Burns, gets a few runs then sits out the debacle. poor Chappell.

Seems strange that Giles recommended banning such matches when he first took over, following on from his ban implemented at Warwickshire, yet it was felt by the players that this would ‘effect morale’. Makes you wonder what goes on in the pretty heads of our senior players.  Bairstow got injured in 2018, that should’ve put an end to it.

Is there a need for things to go so badly that certain senior pros in the team get put into their box, then Spoons can take control?

Logically the only way the football kickabouts should continue is if there is no tackling ie pass & move etc, a bit like 5 a side is & how Clubs like Ajax develop their players.

We think they should have banned it across the board here, a long time ago.

I always said why do cricketers play football before a game where no other sport plays cricket before their match? Well, I have just read Eddie Jones excellent autobiography and he twice mentions the England rugby team playing cricket as a means of team bonding. No reports of any injuries though.

Nonsense. What are they going to do now, a game of chess?! Non-contact football is an excellent way of warming up. West Ham having been doing it for years during Premier League games.

Simple. One's 'stock' rises when one is out of the England team.  Chappell gets thrown in at the last minute, we'll probably recall someone like Jennings (although he did OK in SL) and if they don't start making runs they will be pushed out in favour of a returning Burns.

Yes.  Bizarre brain freeze over Zac Crawley/Chappell.
