Has Amir's position still not been sorted?

Someone has been seriously asleep on the job here.

It was always the case he was not going to play today and tomorrow due to family reasons.  It was announced back when he signed

When did "family reasons" replace Visa problems? A genuine question.

When did "family reasons" replace Visa problems? A genuine question.

He was due to play at Lords and couldn't due to no VISA.

When he signed in February it was said he wouldn't play the Surrey and Kent games.

https://www.essexcricket.org.uk/2019/02/08/mohammad-amir-set-for-eagles-return/

Amir will be available for eight Vitality Blast games during his spell with the Club, including the opening match against Middlesex at Lord’s on Thursday 18 July.

Due to family commitments, he will miss the next two matches against Surrey and Kent Spitfires, before making his eagerly anticipated return to The Cloudfm County Ground when Essex Eagles host Gloucestershire on Saturday 27 July.

Amir’s final match for the Eagles will be against Glamorgan in Chelmsford on Friday 16 August before he departs for his pre-arranged commitments in this year’s Caribbean Premier League.

Nice of him to spare the time between other committments.

Depends on if he has his VISA or not?  Not heard anything.

Unfortunately I guess that is the way it is.  Top Players can dictate on their terms that may not always be for the best of the club.  No doubt when he does play he is a proven match winner but that does not always help the club when he is not playing

The sooner we find out if Snater can bat the better. Get him up the order tonight and the next few games.

For sure we know he cannot bowl.

Well the battle of the bridge was a damp squib. We didn't lay a glove on them. A rethink needed.

Sadly, it looks very much like "normal service has been resumed as soon as possible" tonight!! Never got up with the run rate as any stage and relying, it seems, too much on one big hitter to "come off".
Several of our batsmen need to start stepping up and contributing and hopefully Amir and one of Porter or Cook can come in tomorrow to replace the hapless Snater and Quinn.

Sounded like that was a good even pitch which rewarded good bowling, but Kent got about 25 over par due to the chuckle brothers we have bowling “pace”. I don’t feel angry about Snater anymore, I actually feel sorry for him. He’s so woefully out of his depth, it must be embarrassing for him to face some of his teammates. If he was English, playing club games at the weekend would be the extent of his cricketing career.

Quinn is not much better, and only gets by due to taking the odd wicket in the format. It’s the worst T20 bowling attack we’ve ever had by a mile, for that reason I can’t really blame the batters. I thought they got a good total against Middlesex that ABD made look smaller than it was due to the toss ups getting served his way. Against Surrey the batsman did very well to get a total that was almost unchaseable, and tonight they’ve had to chase a total about 25 runs higher than it should have been against a very good bowling attack.

Why did Harmer give Snater the last over, Delport or Bopara would have been a better option

Last night also demonstrated the main failing of this format, which will also become the main failing of the Hundred.  First team to bat gets a good, or sometimes even just reasonable, score.  It soon becomes obvious that the second team to bat aren't going to get anywhere near the total, so the game just fizzles out and any excitement for the crowd is lost.

It's different at the moment, because one tribe will be elated whilst the other will be disappointed.  But the Hundred - at least to start with - won't have any tribes behind them, so if there are too many matches like that, people will just lose interest.

True.  Same thing happened with the ladies at Chelmsford.

Perhaps a rule will be introduced that if the team batting second gets too far behind a couple of spectators will be asked to bowl an over each to give them a chance to get back in it.
A bit like playing the Joker in Its a Knockout.

Or force one of the bowlers to wear a penguin suit whilst the pitch rotates with water pouring down?

Please please don't give the ECB any more ideas.

I wasn't there but it highlights once again how much we will miss Tendo when he does retire, top scorer for the 2nd time in 3 games & again not out as well.

the comments from Ryan seem to have a familiar ring:-

Quote
It was disappointing without being a complete train smash. I felt Kent had one or two more options and maybe a better balance to their team.

Is that not what has been said on this forum?

Quote
The last over of Kent’s innings, scoring 21, was vital to them

Yes, Ryan it was - but remind me - which team bowled that last over to them - death bowling??

Quote
Maybe the wicket wasn’t as easy as it looked. Personally, I just couldn’t get it going with the bat, I really struggled to hit it. I tried to go for it from 14 overs out, but the wicket was a little sticky and I never really found my timing.

both sides batted on the same wicket.

Quote
There is still a long way to go in this competition and I do believe we are in good shape and can change things around.”

I seem to recall that was what said last year - and during the One Day Cup etc etc

I know he wasn't Capt but it sounds like the same old excuses rehashed, what else can he say?
