Would the club confirm that the following points are club policy.
1. Member of opposition clubs are permitted to park in Meteor Way club car park
2. Spaces are reserved for certain non-members of the club
If these points are not club policy then please would they inform their stewards to act accordingly.
-
nat I'm not sure anyone from the club actually reads the posts these days. Maybe should should address these questions to the office?
I've seen opposition members allowed to use Meteor way ... not sure that is fair as it sometimes has been full.

On point 1 - Provided Essex members are allowed to use car parking facilities on away trips, then nothing wrong with opposition members using ours.
On point 2 - Funny enough whilst I was paying at the gate today the steward said they are trying to get someone out who shouldn't be there.
Does anybody manage to get in without showing their membership badge? If so, it could be a case of getting people parked as quickly as possible to avoid queues going out to the main road etc.
-
On exit, a left turn only sign would be helpful, as there is always some plonker trying to turn right, across two lanes of oncoming traffic, and causing a tailback of those trying to leave.
-
The getting someone out who should not be there. I have seen in the past a corporate member or member of the media being stopped by the steward and told that they have allocated parking elsewhere and should not be taking a place in the main car park.
If Chelmsford Council were not such Nazis about parking in the City we would not have these problems. I can remember when you could park at the end of London Road all day. Of course now it is taken up by a bus lane that might see a bus every 20 minutes.
-
I've given up on driving to the ground. Too much hassle with parking and the tortuous walk. Of course the walk to the station has got longer too! I was amazed by the mixing up of pedestrians and traffic at the main gate when Mrs Slogger gave me a lift on Sunday. That's an accident waiting to happen. I also see people have started taking a short cut through the hedge at the River gate.

If you can only turn left (and I can see why you’ve feelings about doing so) how do those of us who want to use the A12 northwards get back on track?
Genuine question

Square
Simply turn left then at the Petrol Station and Newsagent turn right. Turn left into a side road and come out at Rainsford Road and turn left.
The wallies trying to turn right out of Meteor Way will have to wait for you to pass.
-
Easier to have both , can only get out onto the main road if there is a suitable gap while looking right which ever way you require to go .
Those who turn right them get out into the middle of the road and await for a vehicle from the left to give way. In the mean time those who want to turn left can also sneak out .

A pity they can't do what existed at Castle Park, sadly there is no nearby roundabout cars can use to turn at if they wish to go North after initially turning left out of the ground.
-
Turn left onto main road, swing right into Beeches Road, turn round, and exit Beeches Road left ( there is a keep clear area on the road,) so they always let you out, and in less than a minute you are back on track for the A12.
Or turn left, go up to Writtel Road, turn left into Writtel Road past the Crematorium, up to BBC Essex corner, the turn right or left, which ever suits you best.
I always use option one and it's a lot quicker than trying to turn right.
-
Vim, Perov, thanks. Must admit I often leave at tea, so there's not usually any problem, but of course yesterday there was, and of course, and understandably there'd been a scrum trying to get out of the carpark itself.
Actually, when I did get to Rainsford Road, traffic was moving very slowly, so I was waved across when trying to turn right.
At least I think I was being waved across; guy going towards the city seemed only to have two fingers on his hand when he was waving. (LOL.... not true!)

Please note those attending Meteor way, the stewards are informing/ reminding attendees that they need to leave 30 MINS after play. Gates locked thereafter.
-
Inevitably since the introduction of payment at Meteor Way, queuing now forms at the entrance. The stewards who attend are still efficient has always but perhaps what is now required is two entrances, one for prepaid tickets and those without . This would cut the queuing to a minimum and seperate those with confirmation emails who just need to show and those who are paying on the day .
-
Payment is not new. It was just quicker and easier with cash.

Agree cash would be much easier and quicker, but probably a health and safety concern now by the club with the stewards having a large sum of cash in their possession .

I always travel by rail so no impact on me. My wife used to work for a church and they found banks increasinly reluctant to handle large amounts of cash, especially coins.
-
Perhaps they could make it free again?

Meteor way now unavailable for the fourth day, Notts ( H) due to unwanted visitors present.

Yep I saw them on my way home. Scum of the earth.
-
If there are six vehicles, these are the ones just evicted from Southend, who were in Witham the previous week. At least with the new legislation, the threat of vehicles being seized for illegal trespass, can get rid within a few days.
That is, if Chelmsford Council can be bothered to do anything.

How did they get in? Where were the stewards?

I don't think our somewhat elderly stewards can be expected to confront these folk. Unfortunately it will take several days to get the court order to remove them.

It shouldn?t need a court order (and I did say shouldn?t not doesn?t).

The barrier should have stopped them surely?

Of course it shouldn't ...... and why don't the club tell their members the reason instead of the mealy mouthed cryptic "circumstances beyond our control" statement.
-
Would a Steward still be on duty after tea and the barrier would be open to allow people to leave the car park.
Meteor Way is owned by the Council, not the club.
-
Given that we don?t want another Newton report, the club has to be careful. Sounds like they moved on from Witham quickly?very wise. Could suggest that there?s a really nice car park with all the facilities down in Taunton?!
-
.... Could suggest that there?s a really nice car park with all the facilities down in Taunton?!
Culturally they'd have a lot in common too.

Why is my punctuation still being changed, but yours isn?t?
-
Will Meteor Way be clear for parking on Thursday, or are the caravans still there?
-
I would hope that they have been moved on by now. If not, it will show Chelmsford Council who are responsible for the field. How lazy and incompetent they are.
Braintree and Southend Councils got shot of them within a week.
-
According to local residents / members the city council have put in a planning application for Meteor way to be used for homeless accommodation housing. If the council want Essex cricket and the financial benefits it brings, surely the club should be fighting vigorously for the area to be used for vital car parking ( no disrespect for the unfortunate persons ), and extra open recreation space for the public when not in use .

You've got no chance. The pressure to build will win out. The club need to convert the ground level car park next to the ground into a multi-story.
-
No doubt the club is aware of such proposals, and together with the council need to find an alternative if permissions are given.
Wonder how many members do not reside within the city centre, a high proportion no doubt, so Meteor way provides a vital service.
A alternative to a multi storey suggested by Nat, would be to put the buildings incorporated into the redevelopment of the ground improvements, ( shock horror ).

Anyone have information on Meteor Way season ticket price / renewals for 2026 ?
-
An email will be coming out next week with details. Probably available end Feb, early March.
-
As. I can be well on the way to Rettendon. In the time it takes to leave the Car Park and the City Centre. It is the Bus for me.

But there is always the risk of highwaymen or highwaypersons holding up your stagecoach on the Rettendon Turnpike?
-
The only Highway robbers are at the entrance to a Car Park.

Season ticket prices for Meteor Way 2026 .
Red ball only 45 pounds
Red ball and 50 overs 55 pounds

Is there an opening ceremony, for a gate leading to Meteor Way. That has existed and should have been opened years ago. If, as I found out, with asking to use the toilets in the indoor school before the ground opened. Giving approval, would involve requiring new brown trousers, if the answer was yes.
