If the England coach has got the sack ...

What's GG doing with a couple of Easycall girls?

Why are they standing in front of advertising boards for completely different sponsors? Come on, marketing department don't let your standards be dragged down by the rest of the club...

More importantly why is he back on the scene like he never went away?

Because he is Mr Essex CCC...and always will be.

To be fair, Goochy always said that he was an Essex player first and England second.

Much as I respected him as a player, the club needs a break from the past.

Howard Wilkinson famously tore down all the Revie-era paraphernalia at Leeds Utd before they won the premier league.

Time to make more heroes...

My thoughts exactly.

We've got enough lousy coaches as it is.

Couldn't agree more. Time to move on.

When Doug Insole steps down as President that would be the appropriate post for Graham in my opinion

Despite his playing & non-playing career, Insole's greatest contribution to the game was dropping G Boycott after scoring 246 runs 'too slowly', which is worth a CBE by itself.

Apparently the latter has commented occasionally about it.   :P :P :P :P :P :P :P

Our Geoffery is of the opinion that Doug's surname should have begun with an A.

That would make it either Ainsole or Ansole!!
Yes I do know what he means!! Boycott dropped for slow scoring - now there's a surprise!!

Although that doesn't stop him reminiscing about his double century at the Garrison Ground.

Which on a slightly different - although topical - track, I see that new housing development next to the Castle Park ground is all but finished ...albeit on built on the same flood prone ground which, in the past, necessitated the relocation. Not that Geoffrey will be complaining

When did Essex last use the Garrison Ground? I never saw them play there myself - I think I first went to Colchester week in 1976.

The last CC match at the Garrison was I think against Somerset in June,1972.

I watched that game in 1971. Bruce Francis was our overseas player at the time. I think Robin Hobbs finally removed Boycott with a dubious LBW decision.

Maybe the umpire had seen enough of him.

What were the merits and drawbacks of the ground compared to Castle Park? I assume the ground is drier?

That was the reason moving to the Garrison, but it wasn't a popular venue and - even given our poor start to the 1972 season* - the numbers attending games were well down compared to those attending the Park. Despite it's venerability to flooding and rain-sodden conditions, it was still preferred to the Garrison Ground by supporters.

*Ironically the last CC match there was also the first win of the season for Essex.
