Sam Curran injured and Jimmy rested. Sounds like the latter was quite pleased to sit this one out (I thought he looked even grumpier than usual in the field during the second test)
A few punters are disappointed that Olly Stone isn't being given a crack but it may well be he's dodged a bullet given the SL wickets, but I hope he'll get a crack in the Windies tour.
JB doesn't look a natural number 3 in the red-ball game, but a few years ago I thought he was a lousy wicketkeeper and too vulnerable to the short ball to nail down a Test slot - so go to in Johnny, prove me wrong again.

Another fine day's Test cricket. I'd say England slightly have their noses in front, but not by much.
I dare say a few of us will be raising a glass to Johnny Bairstow tonight. Not that he's proved he is The Answer at number 3, but today should ensure he gets a crack at it for the three West Indies Tests in the new year.

He's got issues.

Nat. We’re not turning into another VP/Grayson scenario?

Umpires not having a very good day. Lots of decisions being turned over on review. At this rate some bright spark will suggest they are past their sell by date and technology rules the day.

How long before, dismissed by A I ?

Who has ever said that technology is infallible (unless you're American)? That's why when the technology indicates the decision is marginal they go with the umpires' call.
-
No problem with umpires call but I wonder whether standing for a six hour day is too much to ask. Perhaps they could rotate the umpires over the sessions. I know the stats suggest they get more right than wrong but it’s not looked so good here.

Umpires either bent or incompetent...?

Well the games are being played in Sri Lanka.

I only take wage stealers to task so leave me out of this one.
