Title: High summer fixtures
Post by: smandlej on May 20, 2018, 08:54:32 AM
We don't usually take much notice of the last five results in that particular competition between the two teams, which is shown on the Cricinfo page for the fixture in the hours before the match.  But looking at the Essex and Durham fixtures for today, it's interesting that, of the three previous fixtures between today's two teams in August of past years, all were No Result and the one July fixture was Abandoned.

Of course, that's only a small cross-section, but it does show how unpredictable the weather can be in the so-called high summer, when the new competition is planned to be played.

I'm think I'm correct in saying that August is the wettest month of the year in London where two of the teams will be based.

Yes but less likely to be frostbitten. The rainfall in London/Essex is minimal compared to up here. Most of the August weather is from short lived storms anyway.

It is a bank holiday weekend and the opportunity for families to attend cricket matches. However apart from the Test match, there are no matches anywhere either today(Saturday) or on Bank holiday Monday. Who sanctions this nonsense? It is hard not to believe that the ECB are deliberately undermining the county game.

I'd have to quibble about whether Cadbury's actually make the nuts, whole hazelnuts...
