Title: David Coleman RIP
Post by: IlfordEagle on December 24, 2013, 10:55:03 PM
A little surprised that nobody has mentioned this yet following the sad & untimely passing of David Coleman last weekend. He was a GREAT commentator with some memorable quotes etc especially'1-0', he also introduced famously the Chile v Italy battle of Santiago & many other classics plus a selection of Colemanballs never to be forgotten.
The word great is often overused but was merited in DC's case, he was top notch & always enjoyable plus an excellent host on QOS.
RIP David - much missed by millions.

I recollect Coleman and Brian Clough at Hampden for a Scotland v England soccer international. Grandstand cut away to the Roses Match. On returning to the studio in Glasgow after half an hour of Boycott DC said to Clough how he'd noticed how fascinated he seemed to be by the cricket. "Yes" drawled Clough. "Cricket's a far better game than football!"

"Cricket's a far better game than football!"

Despite being the greatest striker of his generation Clough wanted to be a cricketer.

Just goes to show even the greats have unfulfilled ambitions.
