Title: Test Records
Post by: BlueEagles on December 18, 2013, 12:52:04 PM

In recent weeks, there has been much debate as to whether or not Alastair Cook will break Sachin Tendulkar's Test record of circa 16K runs? Even though he's only 28, I personally feel that he will get knowhere near it? On current form he'll struggle to break Goochie's England record of 8,900! Any views?

You wouldn't have said that a few months ago! Realistically, Tendulkar's demi-god status kept him in the team longer than Ally will. Question is whether Ally is willing/able to rebuild his own England team.

Can't see him getting anywhere near Tendulkar, to be honest. And he doesn't inspire the same devotion or loyalty among players or fans.

And he's never seemed to have the ability, as captain, to think quickly enough on his feet and change the course of a game. Always a potential problem in appointing test captains with little or no experience of captaincy at a lower level. His batting would probably improve if he dropped the captaincy. So might the team's fortunes.

I don't know about that, Firehazard, but his batting average certainly wouldn't diminish if he immediately retired from all forms of first class cricket. ;D
