Title: 2017 General Committee Election
Post by: Daren Mootoo on January 30, 2017, 01:13:51 PM
It's that time of year again to vote new faces onto the General Committee at the club. Voting papers will be going out to everyone who is a member for the 2017 season and once again, I have thrown my hat into the ring. I've been unsuccessful in the past, but have been encouraged by many to stand again. I'm, sure Ash will fill us all in on the details and timings of the voting, but as with last year, please only vote for who you want to see on the committee and don't feel that you have to use all your votes.

Best of luck. So the rumours of your entering the Eurovision 2017 were 'fake news'?

Daren well done.  Do you want to give the forum an idea of what you'd like to be able to influence by being on the committee?

And your opinion on using festival grounds?

Will you take a stand against City-based T20 franchises that threatens the county system?

Thanks Daren. Agree with the very vast majority.

You are going to need to voice your opinions as above, and remember, some of our members will vote based on where the car park is.... :o

When looking for City involvement. It must be taken into account that some people that may be approached are now in the position that their golf clubs are in Cash Converters window.

Blocky - if you live miles away, as I do, in another county with a minimum of a two hour drive then, yes, parking is important. When I became a Life Member it was promised we could park for free in the Ground car park.

That does not make it my prime motive but, to me it is a symptom of the Committee's disregard for the membership.

and what did you do about it?
As a matter of interest?  Did you ask for a refund on your life membership?  Vote out the incumbent committee?

I raise the point because it is quite clearly an issue, and the current and previous committees have seemingly ignored you and the car park brigade but I want to understand why the same people continually got re-elected??

Perhaps with people like Daren about to change the status quo (yes yes, I know Rick died) maybe you can get some change?

Best wishes

Andy

PS one of the reasons I moved to Chelmsford 12 years ago was so I would be able to walk to the cricket ground.  I understand the issue.

I have registered my complaint several times in writing and in person. They say don't have any records more than 5 years old to check, so they refuse to believe me.

I vote every time but cannot control the other people blindly using 5 votes on people they do not want.

I have a family and cannot just uproot them back to Essex.

Daren, I wish you luck & hope you can get elected, you will certainly have my vote again as I think you have many good ideas, sadly people don't always like change, older people in particular - I am getting towards that group but welcome change if it is for the better!!
Like you & I suspect all other supporters I want us to be financially secure, forward thinking, well run with a competitive squad of young players, established ones & top vfm Overseas players.

I think the ground does need some work done, especially the dressing rooms. In general, too, the place looks ‘tired’.
I don’t see how we can get out out of the redevelopment without costs, and given that there appears to be a demand for housing in Chelmsford, maybe this is the time for another push. Whether, of course, there’s a significant demand for high rise flats/apartments I don’t know. Agree, though it’s high time someone had a good look at it.
I’m all in favour of trying the Olympic Park for t20.
Could we try to get some more of the women’s games here; we get good attendances, but maybe the problem is the players facilities.

Small point re car-parking; I can live with Meteor Way, but could the new committee see what can be done about an entrance beside the cricket school; seems silly to have to walk all the way back up to the gates on New Writtle Street and then all the way back down again!

good call on the other entrance and agree on the rest entirely.

I watched a programme on the Super six womens league, the finals were at the ECG as we know, the girls appear to like the dressing room, at least the home one anyway!  God knows how bad the away ones are!

The question of using the gate already by the cricket school for access was raised last season. One of the stewards said that the gate was not opened for pedestrians for Health and Safety reasons.

It sounds over cautious. But we all have seen what walking disaster areas some of the members are now. Some of driving in the parasites car park could also do with improvement.

The postie has just got through Storm Doris and they've arrived. Took a break from working at home (because of the storm) to fill them in and they're back in the post box! Daren's got at least one vote. I noted not many statements from candidates about festival cricket.

I've not had mind yet - anyone care to list the candidates?

Paul Harvey
Ronnie Irani
Daren Mootoo
Peter Northfield
Baiju Solanki
Brian Springall

Vote for no more that three .

I have not received my ballot paper as I have not renewed my membership. If unlike last year I renew before the deadline, I will not be voting for the candidate whose answer to anyone is, stop being so negative. If that is the only contribution they can make, they might as well not bother standing.

Also I will not be voting for Irani. Hopefully he can have a Portillo or Balls moment at the election. If he can have a Lt Cdr Boakes RN Retd, moment as well, all the better.

Got my ballot paper in the post today.

Will be voting for Mr. Mootoo again as last year.

Seems to talk sense.

Personally I'd prefer to hear more detail from all the candidates on their ideas and what they propose. Just a handful of sentences is really not enough to form an opinion on someone . I'd like each candidate to be given a sheet of A4 where they can go into greater depth.

Any of the candidates propose building a wall to keep Kent people out ?

Yes, I agree - we need far more information about these people.

Apart from Daren and ignoring Irani, does anyone know anything about their views?

Not enough info from all candidates on what they hope to achieve if elected .
Perhaps the elections should take place after the end of the playing season, has previous minutes read are year old and obviously relate to season previous to that .

I notice Paul Harvey being pushed by Fossie.  I think he's an ex 2XI lad, I've not met him so couldn't comment.  i'll be voting for Daren and will be advising my pals to do the same.

The results of the 2017 General Committee election were announced at the AGM this evening. Ronnie Irani, Peter Northfield and Paul Harvey were the three elected to join the committee. Thank you to everyone that voted for me and I wish the committee well for 2017. For the record, 37% of the membership returned voting papers.

I have the figures, if anyone would like them. Much to my delight they were read out at the AGM.

That’s delight at their publication of course. Not necassarily at the detail.

(Edited ..... looked again and FFS struck again!)

Daren, well done for putting yourself up for election mate. Sorry to hear you didn't make it, but don't let it stop you trying.

Come and have a chat next week if you're over on Friday or Saturday.  I'll be stood by the corner of the pavilion with a few of the younger (50 year olds!) chaps.
