He might not have wanted to. He played 7 CC games us this year which is a lot. He's on a central contract and there are two Test Tours coming up before christmas. Having a couple of weeks off before that is more than fair enough. He could have taken the Leicester and Worcester games off aswell if he wanted to.

I realise that in the modern game rest is everything but seriously, the England management should be deeply disturbed by the attitude of the guy for not wanting to play a part in such an important game for his county.

What I didn't know was that his wife is expecting another child soon so I'm actually pleasantly surprised that he played the two late season games he did. I get the sense he wants to play for us when he can.
