Post by: frank21 on November 25, 2013, 07:02:07 PM
Trott has left australia hope he feels better (kinda explains his iffy form). i think Root should be number 3 what do the rest of you think ? :)

I sincerely hope Trott can recover from this, must be terrible for him at the moment. David Warner should be ashamed of having his 2 pence worth yesterday - think before you speak!!

Ian Bell for me,

Bell.  End of.

The bigger issue is who comes in/moves up.  I've seen enough of Bairstow and stokes to leave me with little confidence.

Step Forward Mr Bopara.

Bell at 3, surely.

Agree with Blocky about a lack of confidence in Bairstow and Stokes. I'd only play Bairstow if it's decided that Prior's batting form is so poor that we need to replace him. I'd say give Ballance a go. I suspect we're going to lose this series anyway, but he may be one for the future.

Actually, don't blame Warner, completely. He said that Trott played weak and pathetic shots rather than saying Trott was weak and pathetic - obviously, he might have thought twice about making a comment on someone who clearly looks 'out of sorts'.

I myself wasn't altogether surprised, don't get me wrong, I'm not mystic Andy, but something reminded me of Tresco's sudden, inexplicable, decline.

But thinking & Warner have never been easy bedfellows...

I think Bell at 3 is the least bad option. Not ideal as Belly's record at is mediocre which his record at 5 or 6 is excellent.

I'm surprised for the clamour for Ben Stokes at number 6 - given our fragile batting surely we need a front-line batsman there rather than an all rounder with a FC average of around 35 - especially since Matty Prior's in such poor form with the bat.

So - Bairstow (unconvincing) or Ballance (unproven)? All down to who makes some runs in the next tour game?
