Title: Membership 2014 prices released
Post by: stickyboy on November 04, 2013, 03:54:18 PM
http://www.essexcricket.org.uk/2013/11/04/become-essex-member-2014-prices-packages/

I am a full member and pay by direct debit which is now £149 (was £145 last year)

So for £4 extra this season compared to last will get 2 LESS one-day games as previously there was 6 home 40 over games compared to 4 of the new 50 over games.

Last year we had the 4 days England game, this year we have 1 day against Sri Lanka

So I make 5 less days cricket for the membership although we now get a free yearbook to save £2

Looks like an even poorer deal to me unless they give better 20/20 discounts

Looking at the list of benefits makes interesting reading - "free entry to festival matches, 2nd XI". Last time I looked 2nd XI matches were free to everyone and festival matches are the same as a home game unless they are now trying to convince us that we are getting more benefits so it makes it worthwhile to renew.

My guess is that the Club gained a number of new members, especially in the junior category solely due to the England match this year. With nothing approaching that in 2014, together with a reduction in one-day cricket, to a longer and much less popular duration...which will not be played on a Sunday, I would suggest the membership rate should be frozen at the very least.
Of course, members will have to make their own value judgement, based on the (dis)regard ECCC and their ruling regime have for and place on County Championship cricket.
Looking at the advertising blurb for 2014 membership, it strikes me a brain storming session to list the benefits quickly became one of desperation at Fortress Chelmsford © for No Change Essex.
I'm still laughing at this gem from the aforementioned; "Priced at £149 this is value for money and includes a host of other benefits which can be seen below."
Surely if it is then people would quickly recognise its fantastic value without have it inarticulately inserted.

Basically a little more money for less days cricket. No mention of one day only memberships for the 50 over and twenty-twenty matches. Must be too difficult to work out.

I've just spoken to a yorkshire fan who was moaning that their membership which has gone up to £166 which includes T20.

You can buy a seperate T20 membership but not a seperate membership for 4 day cricket.

Well I'm minded to resign my membership in protest at the way the club is run but the proposed EGM is muddying the waters. It is clear that any EGM will occur in 2014 and so current members would need to renew in order to be eligible to vote.

The EGM-supporting members need to get our skates on to organise it if we are to have any impact pre the 2014 season.

maybe someone from Essex could expand on these great new benefits - aside from the now free yearbook (was £2) i cant see anything else

Yes indeed. I've been thinking the same way, but even though I almost certainly can't attend any EGM, I'd need to continue my membership to keep voting rights (for committee or anything else that arises).

Apart from that, and given the dearth of parking at the County Ground, this year's package looks disappointing. Was expecting a few more sweeteners.

This years booklet of so called benefits looked fine - if you live in or around Chelmsford which I don't (25 miles away in Ilford), hopefully that of 2014 will include more local offers, we shall see.
I agree with other posters that the cost of Membership should at least have been frozen especially with a bit less cricket to watch at home next year.

One of the more useful 'perks' of membership in the past was being able to use the members car park during non match days for shopping in Chelmsford etc.

This perk was gradually withdrawn, initially by only allowing members in after 10.30am and latterly stopping the perk totally by making the car park 'permit only' which attracted the local business communities staff, for a fee of course.

I appreciate the car park is no longer available due to development but this is just another example of how members privileges have been gradually reduced over time.

I live further away and found that I couldn't use the vouchers for a bite to eat in Chelmsford on matchdays. (The only time I went to Chelmsford).

i know i've seen the figure somewhere but can't remember where so i'll ask here.

Does anyone know how many members there were in 2013 and was this up or down on the previous year?

As I remember Membership for 2013 was around the 6000 mark. Not sure, but I think it was up on the previous year ?

My Yorkshire membership has risen from £150 to £195 which is the cheapest available paying by direct debit. I do take advantage of the free rugby tickets worth £34 and a discount on the yearbook. There will also be free scorecards(£1) this year. So in my case it is still good value.

It is a hefty rise and the cause of much moaning on the White Rose Forum, which incidentally has just been removed from the official site in the same way that Essex have done.

It seems counties are less happy to engage with their customers these days.

Sussex are offering one day membership to cover all the YB50 and T20 games for £120. Why can't Essex do similar. Last year Middlesex done a £110 membership for people more than 60 miles (straight line crow flight) away from Lords.

The year book cost £3, but overall disappointing to see a rise, and there may well be less free members car parking available in 2014, so it will cost more to follow Essex.
A price freeze would have been a  reasonable option.
I hope this rise is not to go towards for the proposed new £50,000 sightscreen (yes £50,000!) for the Hayes Close end.

There are no answers as they want the increases to stay put and not the ever paying members..

Thank you for posts...

For parking - news on this will follow asap, however we strongly expect parking to be available to Members on a first come, first served basis at the ground, similar to 2013. We will be speaking to the council as to available dates for Meteor Way in 2014 and will speak to council re park and ride potential discounts.

We have added value with FREE Yearbook (worth £3), a really enhanced voucher book with county wide usage. FREE car sticker to first 1,000 Members who renew / purchase.

We strongly believe the 2014 Membership offers very good value for money. Sunday LV= starts will allow working Members to attend

There will be additional guest tickets for LV= games, reduced priced tickets for guests for 50-over games, reduced priced t20 tickets with option to buy at that rate up until 1 week before game (subject to availability). £1 hot drinks and improved food options in Pavilion and around ground.

As always please direct questions to questions@essexcricket.org.uk

Thanks, Danny

And for Life members?

Voucher books are no use to us out-of-county members; let's see something for people who rarely get to Chelmsford but watch away matches.

Danny,

from a total "cricket game" point of view, we are paying more money for now for 2 one-days game less compared to last season.

We now just have 4 one day games included in the membership , wasn't too long ago we had 8 sunday games and 5 B&H games.

Just had a look around at other counties membership

Glamorgan - £139 including all 7 T20 games as well!
Notts - £156 also includes 7 T20 Games
Somerset £209 also includes 7 T20 Games

Although to be fair, none of those CC's have anywhere near the interest that T20 generates at Chelmsford. I don't think that you can blame Essex or maximising the revenue made from T20 and Members do benefit from reduced rates for those matches. Having said that, how many present Members go to T20 ? Certainly none of the regulars at CC matches and , as was , the 40 over games who I know.

Cashless, apparently the last time the option of an out-of-County membership was discussed, the (then) Treasurer and his advisors were of the opinion that hordes of us would find out-of-County friends and relations and book our membership from their addresses. Anyway, it would be difficult to administer!

Make of that what you will. I wonder how Middlesex check on the members who register from East Essex!

What happens with members who pay by direct debit? We pay on a set date, so don't have the option of renewing early. So any extra benefits for early renewal surely ought to go to all those who pay by direct debit, which saves the club money?

I'd hope so, as if they've got any sense they ought to be incentivising DDR payment.
But I've given up assuming anything sensible where ECCC is concerned.

Indeed. It might be a golden car sticker for all we know.
And actually, the info on the ECCC website states that the free Yearbook (whoop) is only for members who renew before 31 December. As direct debit payments are taken in the New Year, will the free Yearbook go to direct debiters?

It's mostly a point of principle. I have an objection to the sort of marketing (widely practised) that offers incentives to potential new customers, while taking for granted the existing ones. So it may be another factor in deciding whether to cancel my direct debit.

Agree 100% with that.

Had my membership for years, dont think I will renew based on the fact there is only 4 one-day games covered now. Dont get to go to much CC Cricket so probably would be worse off having one

I still can't see why people who renew before the 31 Dec can't have the same rate as the Direct Debit customers.
I'm not on direct debit, so even if I renew before 31/12 it will cost me a tenner extra.

I phoned the Ticket Office this morning regarding the renewal of membership for myself & my 2 sons and was advised that although my DD payment is not made until the end of January, we will definitely qualify for ALL the perks, which quote an end of year deadline.

Why couldn't they mention this on the Website, as apparently they have had numerous enquires!!!!!
