Five consecutive Home T20 Defeats !!
« on: May 30, 2015, 08:02:42 AM »
Taking into account the end of last Season I think that makes 5 consecutive Home T20 Defeats with the latest one against Somerset. Nobody that I spoke to last evening actually expected us to beat Somerset and they proved to be right. Have to say that half the team looked as though they would rather have been elsewhere. We are clearly no longer a real power in T20 and I guess that the Club will find it a lot harder to sell T20 Tickets next Season.

The batting seems ok but the bowling just seems to be lacking something in my opinion. There just doesn't seem to be a wicket taker in there, Tait is about par and whereas Topley and Napes usually grab a few they both seem to be under par, and Masters has just the solitary wicket.

The lack of a spin bowler is hitting us hard.

With the squad we have its no real surprise. Not good enough in any form.  Harsh but true

Sadly, thats true (especially in the "not important" in the eyes of the club!, Championship) but I DID think we had a first 11 (not much else outside of that though to be fair!) that SHOULD have been capable of easily qualifying for the last 8 of the T20.
Been a shocker of a start to the season and surely even Mr "job for life" must be feeling the pressure now as most of the eggs in the clubs solitary ambition basket, have now already been broken even before the end of May!!!
Simply not good enough in anyones book.

They had an interview with Derek Bowen on BBC East around 10 or so minutes before the start. The ground was not that full, the reason being Rail problems.

That meant a large number of the crowd missed the only good bit of the Essex performance.

I wouldn't disagree but last night the batting left us 20 or so runs short which would have probably won the game. 103 off 10 should have resulted in a lot closer to 200.

Agreed, we thought we needed 200+ especially with Gayle in the opposition, Topley in T20 hasn't been the same bowler since 2013, Napes is becoming more expensive & Masters needs to be bowled straight off at the beginning or he will be hit later on.As I have said before Phillips is sorely missed in T20, sadly we are a spent force in T20.

In the Look East interview, unless I dreamt it, Mr Bowden stated that the money made from T20 was invested by ECCC in four-day cricket. Hmm.

Maybe but if so then it's been invested badly.

Spouting utter codswallop is the Essex way so it's good to see Bowden is fully on board with the tradition.

I reckon that he's put £1000000 on Essex to win 4 cc matches this season at very, very long odds...

Did Mr Bowden say we had invested it in our CC team or another's?

What is the utter standout of this and similar comments, by Bowden.... and East before him, is that they just expect people to swallow their statements at face value and not question them. I don't suppose the interviewer questioned him and asked for examples of this 'investment'?
I thought it [T20 income] had been invested in consultants to present the flat-ling 'redevelopment' in a more positive light....that and big fat salary to our imported *stars*, such as Panesar, Shah et al. ::)

The contribution of Tim Phillips to the Essex one day side is now being fully realised.
He was an excellent fielder, different bowling option and capable of scoring important runs at the end of the innings.

Of course not. It was BBC Look East, after all.  ;)
